Apparently the Beeb are creating some new web-based Who. Check it out.[/url]

Kinda odd that they're going to start it in the middle of the Ninth Doctor's career, instead of opening with his regeneration sequence. Still, Richard E. Grant should be a pretty cool Doctor, even if he won't be the Quite Handsome Doctor from Curse of Fatal Death.

Just started watching Remebrance of the Daleks, and although the production values are higher and the quality of film much better, this new Doctor, 7th one, is annoying. Baker was MUCH better. Maybe I'm not being fair as I'm only into ep 2 but I'm not impressed.
The Daleks don't seem to be as impressive or scary as I've gotten the impression from hearing about them. Also they seem to have the tactical expertise of a doorknob.
But like I said, this is my first Dalek epiosde and only the second in the arch. Just a quick update.

Which ones have the tactical ability of a doorknob? (Though there is one scene with the grey ones truly fouling up) the ivory ones?
They're more scary in light of that ship being a planet killer with > DS firepower.
Really their reputation comes from (lost, damm you BBC bastards) the Power of the Daleks, where they preform in a generally devious and underhand manner.
PS, can you get screenshots from that?

It takes the 7th Doctor a while to evovle. If you check the most popular Dr Who sites, they all agree that this Doctor becomes the darkest of them all, after a rather weak start.Stravo wrote:Just started watching Remebrance of the Daleks, and although the production values are higher and the quality of film much better, this new Doctor, 7th one, is annoying. After having watched the whole arch I changed my mind about the Daleks, its the voices I realized that annoyed the fuck out of me. Also the last Dalek dispatched by the Dr. was a classic Kirk talking super computer into self destruction move and loved seeing that in action.
The Hand of Omega (whoch because of the British accent made me rewind to listen closely several times as I thought several different things were meant Omergha, Ohgra, etc. Bastards, enunciate.) move by the Doctor I saw coming from a mile away and was slightly disappointed that the Villain (Davros) fell for such an obvious goad, but still, seeing a sun go nova and take out its planets is slightly higher scale than any Baker ep I've seen yet.
In the commentary the 7th Doctor does mention how he wanted to make the Doctor darker than he had been before, so I'll have to check out his other eps and see the evolution of his character.
Oh and Necronlord I would have no clue how to do a screencap and I already returned the movie to Netflix this morning. As to the tactical sense of a door nob, the ivory ones were RETARDED, there were times that they sharp shooted soldiers BUT when a main character was confronted by a Dalek, GONE was the sharp shooting ability and the Dalek basically had to get to point blank range while shouting "Exterminate!" just in time for the main character to finagle a way out. Talk about character shields...that was truly the most annoying part of the episodes.
Oh, and the special weapons Dalek was fucking awesome, showed some flexibility in their design and tactics (on the Imperial Dalek side) and I was totalkly surprised by the little girl in the command seat. Very good touch.

Yup. That pisses me off too, particularly where Ace gets surrounded by no less than three of them.Best bit in war of the daleks : "Why did you not test the device on Earth's star insead of destroying what you thought was Skaro?"slightly disappointed that the Villain (Davros) fell for such an obvious goad,

BTW, did you notice anyone familiar there? (Admiral Ozzel...)

BTW, Ace was kind of a hottie. There was one scene where she had her hair down and in a bathrobe....yummy. (That British accent helps) Weirdest companion that I've seen so far is the jungle woman that Baker Who traveled with in Robots of Death. Jungle woman?! WTF??

Anyway, the BBC added Leela as the Doctor's companion because they wanted someone who wouldn't scream and generally do nothing, as was the general rule for female companions at the time. Tom Baker later admitted that he was uncomfortable working around her because of the leather outfit.

You can interpret that however you like (wether or not the Dalek Prime's 'Skaro' is the original, but it does explain various inconsitencies. In any case, the only daleks wiped out at the end of RotD were davros's imperial faction.ZShade wrote: Worst bit in War of the Daleks: The godawful history revision.

Someone before mentioned lost stories;
Yes, some early who stories are forever lost because sometime in the late sixties the BBC decided to clean out their film vaults.
The biggest loss would have have to the final adventure of the first Doctor 'The Tenth Planet' of which only the last 15 seconds or so have been recovered.
For the best of the 7th Doctor, I recommend 'Battlefield'.

New Update:
I saw Ribos Operation and Pirate Planet, the first two in the Key to Time Series.
Ribos was OK, not great but OK. I liked the whole conman storyline and the introduction to the Key to Time. Introducing a White Guardian and a Black Gaurdian. I have no idea what they are, but I'm sure the series will explain it more fully as it unfolds.
Pirate Planet was GREAT. LOVED the loud mouth blustery captain with a fairly decent (for Who) Cybernetic impants and armor. The concept was also very cool, a planet that eats other planets. The big question for me is if the writer of this episode Douglas Adams is THE Douglas Adams from Hitchhiker fame? If so I can see why he's considered so funny, I luaghed out loud several times and easily thought this was one of the better Whos I've seen yet.

I came up with a whole Story arc to continue form the 1996 movie, including a regeneration and shock of all horrors the introduction of a son for Doctors whos.
It also involved a war on Galifry as a arc that would last a few seasons mixed in with the individual eps.
not that any of you would like it. your all far too picky

Douglas Adams also wrote the infamous episode 'Shada' (which was never finished due to strike action) but is now being webcast on the BBC site. (played by current Doctor Paul McGann and Lalla Ward)

Actually, episodes 1,2, and 3 were preserved. It was episode four which was lost barring the regeneration scene, the Doctor's first transformation.Parallax wrote:The biggest loss would have have to the final adventure of the first Doctor 'The Tenth Planet' of which only the last 15 seconds or so have been recovered.
However, thanks to a small number of dedicated fans, many lost stories from the Hartnell and Troughton eras have been recovered as "telesnap reconstructions". Fan-made and preserved audio recordings made at the time of original broadcast are combined with episode stills to produce a slide-show version of the missing stories. Some of these have proven to be rather high quality. Some telesnap reconstruction projects have even had the cooperation of BBC technicians who loaned out time, production stills, and even audio archives to the reconstructors.
"The Tenth Planet", however, has returned as a BBC-produced telesnap reconstruction; combining the audio archive copy of ep. 4 with production stills, fan-made telecine footage of certain scenes (made by aiming an 8mm. film camera at the TV back in '66), and the surviving footage from ep. 4 with the regeneration scene. As a result, the 'Beeb were finally able to present a complete-veresion video which is actually excellent.
"The Tenth Planet" is available on VHS from BBC Video.
It was released on VHS years ago though, with Tom Baker doing the introduction for the episode, and narration for the parts that weren't complete.Adrian Tullberg wrote:Douglas Adams also wrote the infamous episode 'Shada' (which was never finished due to strike action) but is now being webcast on the BBC site.
