Actually it's very useful for dual space/air superiority fighters, though the type he may be referring to may infact be truly useless.Beowulf wrote:Makes the customer want to buy it. RayCav has a point. Some sci-fi starships do in fact have atmospheric flight capabilities, and in those cases, an aerodynamic shape might come in handy. However, for the United Federation of Planets' Sovereign-class battleships, which never sees anything else than space,* the aerodynamic shape is purely redundant.RayCav of ASVS wrote:Actually it's very useful for dual space/air superiority fighters, though the type he may be referring to may infact be truly useless.Beowulf wrote:Makes the customer want to buy it. However, I have noticed that some sci-fi fighters look quite organic despite being un-aerodynamic - for example, the bat-like Dralthi used by the Kilrathi in Wing Commander I.
*As opposed to similarly-sized SW ships.

There will never be a resolution in the evolution vs creationism debate because neither side can conclusively prove that they are right. The creationists can't prove that they're right becuase they're not, and the evolutionists can't prove that they're right because the creationists are too damn stupid to listen.

come to think of it... one really cool feature of the legioss/tread fighters is that they carry what is perhaps the best pilot survival system ever devised: the Cyclone Battler motorcycle/powered armor system! -- I would KILL for one of those (well... maybe not KILL, but bribe, steal etc...)VF5SS wrote:That's Legioss and Tread from Genesis Cliber; Mospeda, damnit!KhyronTheBackstabber wrote:The Alpha, and Beta fighters from Robotech: The New Generation.

So many choices, so hard to decide... well, I liked the Mara, Hercules, and Myrmidon fighters from FS2, the Banshee from WC4, the Starfury from B5, and the TIE defender... those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head

Wouldn't that armor start to chafe after awhile? Stig always looks grumpy when wearing it...

Rapier I?? Isn't that the Confederation fighter used in the disastrous Wing Commander movie?? (if I recall correctly, the Rapiers in the movie were constructed from scrapped Cold War-era Russian fighters!!)Bob McDob wrote:Heh, the Rapier I has stupid little wings that don't actually work in-atmosphere . . .

No, the movie Rapiers, Broadswords, and just about everything else looked nothing like the games' ships.Simon H.Johansen wrote:Rapier I??
