nBSG Episode 315: "A Day in the Life"...
Moderator: NecronLord
Episode wasn't bad, but not great. Slightly above average. So when are we going to see an episode completely from the cylon's point of view?

There are arguably two major stories occurring in this episode:
1) Adama deals with his feelings for his ex-wife and for Roslin.
2) Cally is PMSing. Or, if you're feeling more charitable, "Galen and Cally are having marital difficulties." (Maybe they were shooting for some sort of weird connection or something between Adama's old marriage and Tyrol's current marriage? I dunno.)
Tyrol and Cally's marital problems did not deserve as much time as they got. It basically boiled down to Cally bitching about there being too much work and not enough hands, and being a petulant bitch about Tyrol doing his damn job correctly. The episode ends and All Is Well in the Tyrol household. Where did this story go? What did it accomplish?
The airlock was, in my view, simply there to fit the Expected Format of the show; the characters deal with a Big Problem while in the background they Grapple With Personal Problems. It seems to me like this episode was therefore a result of the conception by the writers and/or producers of the show that the audience would not accept an episode solely focused on Adama grieving over his lost marriage and on Cally PMSing over the fact that there's too much work and too few hands.
Worse, they addressed this concern in the worst possible way: with a contrived bullshit [TECH] problem that should never have been a problem, should never have made it past the editors/producers who should have recognized how contrived it was, and which ultimately did little but to aggravate and offend the sensibilities of the audience.
The Adama material was very good, and saved this episode from a poor rating. However, I still only rate it a 3, as so much of the episode is merely filler, and poorly written filler at that.

I ultimately gave it a four because the Adama stuff was fairly quite good and well handled. They didn't cave in to the sappy dad hugging son and apologizing route, or giving his son a little speech, etc etc. The law books was a very nice way to finish it.Uraniun235 wrote:

I don't like this whole "working relationships out" thing that has been going on for the past few episodes. Part of the reason I love this show is people are fucked up as they are in real life and it's interesting to see how they get along with each other day after day without anywhere to go. Now everyone's making lovey-dovey faces. I hope they make people start hating each other again.
Season 2's Downloaded wasn't good enough? I mean it had the Resistance, but that was about it for non-Cylon moments.b00tleg wrote:Episode wasn't bad, but not great. Slightly above average. So when are we going to see an episode completely from the cylon's point of view?

Everyone at each other's throat is just the other extreme of the Battlestar Livejournal spectrum, which I find just as repulsive as constant sunshine and lollipops.Trytostaydead wrote:I don't like this whole "working relationships out" thing that has been going on for the past few episodes. I'm thinking its the old gun on the wall tactic; they pointedly mentioned that they havent seen a single solitary toaster in 49 days.
Lee tears them a new asshole about about getting lax just because they havent had any contact for 49 days...
Something's brewing, and I suspect its gonna be big

Hey, before the bitch came out in her character, she used to be the spunky, naive-but-crazy-at-heart, girl next door type.
Too bad they have deviated from that aspect of her character.

Well, if they spaced everyone who ever annoyed us, we'd probably be down to Adama, Captain Kelly, and, um... *scratches head*General Zod wrote:Pity they couldn't have spaced Cally for good and saved us from her whining. Ah well.

Gaeta never really annoyed me that much, they wrote enough redeeming qualities into his character that I wouldn't want him spaced that often.
Ummmm......I think that's about it.

Actually, in a way I hope not. Last time something big happened, they blew the budget and we got stuck with a good chunk of hte season of filler and emostar Galactica.Burak Gazan wrote:I'm thinking its the old gun on the wall tactic; they pointedly mentioned that they havent seen a single solitary toaster in 49 days.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I dunno. Cally's the only one that really annoys me. The rest of them actually seem to have more than one dimensional personalities.Uraniun235 wrote:Well, if they spaced everyone who ever annoyed us, we'd probably be down to Adama, Captain Kelly, and, um... *scratches head*General Zod wrote:Pity they couldn't have spaced Cally for good and saved us from her whining. Here's the known symbols..ngc7293 wrote: Outside of that, I saw a red Swasticka on a flag with a blue field. The red was outlined in white. I figured this was a flag of one of the Colonies, but I couldn't find a picture or reference to it on Wikipedia. I imagine I saw it in other ceremonies in other episodes but never picked up on it. This was when Adama first saw Roslin at that U shaped table.
Does anyone know which colony that flag represents? Even if I am wrong on the shape of the symbol, I'd still like to know. Or is there a website that the Colony flags for nBSG

I saw it. I liked it.

Cally's cute, and a geeky guy's dream (ooh a geeky girl who's also cute!), kinda like how Kaylee from Firefly is also well liked.Skylon wrote:Am I the only one left who doesn't mind Cally?General Zod wrote:I dunno. But Cally is very much a minor character who seems to get an inordinate amount of screentime. That's my only real beef with her, aside from a few other things.

I still like Cally, however what originally made me like the character seems to be disapearing. No where near the levels of Starbuck and Apollo but...Skylon wrote:Am I the only one left who doesn't mind Cally?General Zod wrote:
