I see a lot of furry stuff, and much of it is actually decent. This.. this is hideous. Mary Sueariffic crap.RazorOutlaw wrote:Hey, it's fur culture. Fur culture with ATTITUDE that is, rather than just being a mary-sue you can also express your latent desire to be a munchkin. As far as I can tell mary-suism is an intrinsic part of the fur culture just as much as typical fantasy role-playing.

Heh, I won't dispute that some of it is decent. I've seen people do world building that had nothing to do with their character (although I've seen plenty who say 'I built this world because of my character' but maybe I'm splitting hairs).
The idea that came to mind regarding furries though is 1) the stuff you might see posted on somethingawful.co*'s Awful Link of the Day and 2) a friend of mine was browsing a furries personal ad and he copy+pasted them to me over AIM.
The phrase "White tiger with a warm smile, muscular build, bisexual with male preference" will forever be burned into my mind. But perhaps I'm being too harsh here?

He didn't actually draw them, either. He goes one step further into disturbing territory by commissioning artists to draw said pictures, and then failing to pay for them.
All in all, I probably should have put a warning up not to search for his site.

Apparently this guy has some SERIOUS ISSUES. Like, needs a shrink or menace to society types of issues.

Possibly. Some people use coins in PVC mockups (-not- a good or nice thing to do). Wrist injuries do become a concern for one-handed weapons, though.SirNitram wrote:I didn't say it'd be a good weapon, and I was thinking more of using it to maximize the torque and impact of a lighter weapon than one of it's own size. The problems you mention are all there, but it's far more sensible than most sci-fi swords.
Did this for my setting, yes. The lack of mass would give it issues against something that was somehow armored against it but that's what a diverse arsenal is for.You could always go the opposite direction and project an arbitrarily powerful EM field that exactly duplicates actual matter with a ridiculously sharp blade. Then you're wielding something next to weightless which carries it's own issues.

Well without hte neutron star's gravity wouldn't his armor sort of.. explode, if it had any notable amount of neutronium present?Xeriar wrote:
It depends on the mass of the star. Like white dwarfs, they grow smaller, and it is not clear where neutrons break down and some other form of degenerate matter, such as say quark matter, would take over.
...that said, what would you do with neutronium in a sword? Irradiate people you hit with it?

I'd be more concerned that the armor would disintigrate, as you couldn't incorporate neutronium into a titanium matrix with any sort of stability. Also, he falls into the trap of 'titanium = uber metal' really, for a titanium sword to have the strength of a steel one, it would have to be thicker and heavier, and it holds an edge less well.

I once was at a medevil fare where I could swing some weapons around. I can't say how heavy they were, but they were surprisingly light, especially if you kept in shape. They were heavy after you spent a whole day flinging it around. I myself have a steel sword that is very light, but you can tire easily if you fling it around wildly too much.I'm pretty sure 50lb two handers were rare in medeviel times - msot swords were ALOT less massive than that (20lb or less IIRC).
You don't need strength to lift the sword. I saw a 7-9 year old do that. You need it to KEEP it swinging.
What's more disturbing? That he draws it or that someone bothers to draw it?The disturbing part is that he felt it neccesary to draw a wolf in BDSM gear. You'd think if he's going to wank out all these super weapons and devices, he'd bother drawing those. (then again maybe its not his own drawing, but that's just as disturbing.)
Perhaps not, but I've found a few furry comics and sites that are not that bad. I sometimes find stories told that are not otherwise. Even though, I did hear of some pretty nasty things about some of them, but they are a minority. The phrase "White tiger with a warm smile, muscular build, bisexual with male preference" will forever be burned into my mind. But perhaps I'm being too harsh here?
Actually, from my understanding, neutronium cannot exist outside a neutron star, because you need massive gravities to keep the neutrons from decaying. If a neutron does not find either a nucleus or a neutron star, it will decay into a proton and and an electron and perhaps another particle that I can't remember.Well without hte neutron star's gravity wouldn't his armor sort of.. explode, if it had any notable amount of neutronium present?
It's amazing how common this misconception is (20-50lb greatswords) Some of the parade-only flamberges and display swords got up towards 20 lb..Zixinus wrote:I once was at a medevil fare where I could swing some weapons around. Try picking up a 20lb weight bar (good barbell sets have a nice, weighted main bar) and swinging it around, and you'll see how the idea of a useful 20lb sword is absolutely silly. Any useful, 2-handed sword is going to be between 4 and 6 pounds, with single-handed swords weighing under 3 pounds.
