The same thing I am on: expectations of decent writing and contempt at the lack of it! He's just been on it longer then I have.
Credo!

Here's the thing. I'm not saying this was not a steaming turd. It was at best mediocre, and in many many ways disappointing.

I'm saying that it's not actually 'physically impossible' to turn one species into another (now the telepathic proximity of mamma brain accellerating it...). It shits all over biology and common sense, but it's not a physical impossibility.

As for the ood mammabrain, I'd assume that it was being fed - there was a big physical pump pumping something into or out of it. Presumably blood.

Oh yeah, I'm sure it's -possible-, but he choked up tentacles that weren't there 10 seconds ago. His skull was a completely different shape. Nothing established made this easy to swallow, and it was totally superfluous as a silly 'lol now he's a slave the slaver is a slave geddit' thing. Just like the rest of the episode, clumsy, stupid and unnecessary. What's more amusing is that they foreshadowed with his hair loss, but it didn't go anywhere - turns out it makes you slowly lose your hair then in 10s turn into another species. KARMA! :)

Oh I'm sure it was hooked up to life support. This begs the question of how 'plausible' it is for it to have been in a hole in a bloody glacier. Clearly the Ood society was organised around the sustenance of a giant immortal ice-brain! It's so sensible, I can't believe I didn't see it before! :)

I don't think Doctor Who needs to be hugely realistic - paradox eating dragons, anyone? Effective drama just has rules, and wasting so much screen time of Nazi bullshit and exposition instead of explaining the frankly amazing shit they expect us to swallow was bad. Ignoring almost everything from the original story except what the Ood look like just made it worse. It's a cookie-cutter morality play instead of anything interesting, and yet it's pretentious.

That's magic telepathic accelleration for you...

I'd assume it'd be in some kind of body. And that the ood naturally toil like morlocks to keep it fed.

They didn't mention a body, and I don't recall any 'telepathic acceleration' either, but god knows I'm never watching that turd again. It saddens me that you think these 'explanations' make it less lame and stupid. I mean, this IS the epsiode where people have external brains they carry in their fucking hands, this vulnerability apparently making them MORE trusting and not violently paranoid (and big on breast pockets). Credit for approaching problems in intelligent ways = no thanks we're British.

By 'toil like morlocks' you of course mean 'are telepathically dominated'. But there are no cackling white people, so it's not slavery! :D

I really wanted to watch this... but that woman's voice is just going -right- thru my head! I absolutely hate the bitch!

Nit gave it a four... he liked it.

I have to admit that the 'mother-brain' had a very long-lasting and wicked revenge, turning the owner into an Ood. In theory, even if the Doctor hadn't pushed the issue, the very next time he went near the 'mother-brain', he would have succumbed to the song and transformed. Once transformed, the 'mother-brain' would have had him release the psionic barrier.

A plan of Patience
