Nope, it's salvaged from '60's era RAF Lightning interceptors. A couple of warbirds fanatics raised hell over that. I understand one went up for auction a couple months ago for about US$10,000.

My first choice would be the Defiant from DS9 (they actually built a small fleet of them, but you only see one other one in the shows, the others are in the books) There's nothing like a Galaxy Class warp core with seats! :shock:

Second place is Gunstar1 from Last Star Fighter

Third (I know somebody is going to say something about this) is the Colonial Viper from Battlestar Galactica.

Fourth place is the NSEA Protector (Galaxy Quest)

ooooo.... whar Ah kuhms frum, dem's dare is fightin' wurds! :evil:

really, though... how can a fighter that uses a control system that has a hard time distinguishing between the pilots imagination and his commands be sexy? on several occasions, the BDI system incorrectly mistook things that Guld Bowman mused about -- in a theoretical sense or out of pure emotional stress -- and took them as if they were actual commands... things that Bowman would certainly not have done had he actually been on the manual controls at the time. not very reliable (or sexy) if you ask me...

Ah, but the question is "Coolest looking starfighter" not "most effective" or "most kick ass kill every motherfucker out there starfighter."

So many people mistake "cool looking" for combat effective. Often, in movies & games they are one in the same, but not always... :)

The "Hercules"? From where / what series? Where can I find a pic? You're not referring to the real life aircraft, are you? I only ask to make sure that I'm not smoking crack.

come to think of it... I really dont like the space-optimized versions of the VF-19 Excalibur. the overall balance of the original YF -- and by extension the VF-19A -- is preferable... not to mention that the -F and -S models are considerably more bulky.

hell yeah! you should try it on a Nomad. The best console side scrolling shooter becomes the best handheld side scrolling shotter.

if you don't know what a nomad is i'll use ships to compare

Game Gear= VSD
Nomad= ISD-II

Game Boy= Escape pod

It is said otherwhere on the site you linked to that the Rapiers in the movies are Rapier Is.... The ones in WC1 are Rapier II, Variant I....

Personally, I have to go with the VF-19s Excalibur; a Variable Fighter from the Macross Universe modified especially for space but can still operate equally well within an atmosphere.

For reference, this is a site with some images and a fan write-up of it;

I have to disagree... The A model and the YF-19 prototype were much cooler looking fighters than the space-optomized S model...

I have to agree to disagree then - I prefer the smaller wing profile and the redesigned head module of the S Model.
That and it generally seems more practical to have it optimised for space when most of the YF-19 missions were meant to occur in space - this way you have increased manouverability while out of an atmosphere while only a very marginal decrease while in one.

Yeah, my cousin had a Nomad until last year, when he broke it. But I LOVE Lf. I love the music, especially.
