I knew about it by 6th grade at the latest, but that's no thanks to my school. How did the topic come around to this, again?

Easy.

Mecha trouncing US--->Japanese views on WW2---->American views on Indian times

And viola.

Actually it's somewhat relevant since the thought is how does one view one's culture and is somewhat prevalent in Mecha anime about Japan and the US and who's the top dog and such not. Also this applies through most of TV as well.

IT'S ALL MY FAULT! *SOB*

First I asked how WWII was being taught in Japan. The answer I got was that they didn't teach to much until the higher levels and even then little things like the Rape of Nanking got left out.

That spiraled for a bit, until I asked how many Americans were taught the Trail of Tears in school to make a comparsion.

I like to say I'm sorry for the thread hijack.

Anyhoo, there are worse mecha/general anime in that regard. I remember one that my friends made me watch (I don't remember the title and don't care to) that involved Japan being the last holdout against an alien invasion months after the fact, with the U.S. having been overrun in days.

I dunno. It didn't even make an attempt at appearing serious, if that helps. More of a dismally failed attempt at comedy that came off as just stupid.

It'd would be nice to see a Mecha series set on the Earth sometime in the near future, somewhere OTHER than Japan.

Big O!

Oh, I suppose postapocalyptic near-future doesn't count.

Does gundam ever go to Japan?
I don't remember anytime in the UC that it does (its been about 5 years since I have seen the original though) Although I guess North America and Australia are father fucked in that series. But they make good use of Africa and Europe.

As for the Trail of Tears, in Illinois I learned that in 8th grade history along with a lot of the other abuses. Although my school district is known for being very good. We also had a mandatory 10th grade Holocaust unit. Although I had had the WW2 encyclopedia as part of my reading collection since 1st grade.
Japan does do an awful job of teaching about some of the things it did. I really wish the Rykoh had been interested in history as she would have given good perspective, being japanese and all.
and sorry bout the ramblyness.

I wish Cartoon Network would show something other than bloody Gundam Wing over and over, I mean they've been doing that for 3 fucking years!

It was good when I first saw it, but I know there's better stuff since I got a Gundam reference book by Animerica in summer 2002 and would like to see some of the more realistic stuff that doesn't have Übersoldat kids.

Plus Operation Britain sounds fun. Dropping heavy things on, say, Sydney would entertain me.

Hey, I'm getting bored with the series in general, but still would like to know the ending? Anything interesting, or is it like Endless Waltz ending, where everybody is happy?

I meant the ending of Gundam SEED- the series is getting boring, but unfortunately I like both Dragonball GT(don't mock me) and Inuyasha(sort of), so I stuck since Im lazy.

SEED improves a bit towards the end, but the ending is rushed.

"Meh" is my opinion on it.

In the first series White Base arrives over the Western US and crosses over the Pacific before stopping in Japan. Then they cross Southern Asia into Europe, fight at Odessa, dock in Dublin, cross the Atlantic and finally reach Jaburo in Brazil. Then they go back into space.

During Operation British, some debris fell over parts of Asia and North America before the colony landed on Sydney, which completely wiped it off the map.

If you think the mecha shows bash the US, check out Read or Die the OVA. There are many things including the president pissing himself. I dont take it all that seriously tho, good for a laugh

Ohhh yes, ROD takes USA-bashing to the next level. Still, it's an excellent series and it's all in good fun, I think.
