I wouldn't bet on it. The old Tyranid ships are still used in the artwork. I see nothing to suggest that that ship no longer exists. It's probably just beyond modern ability to build.andrewgpaul wrote: Also, the old (sadly, probably non-canon now) Gothic-class battleship

Ah hell, I forgot the GTD Orion class. A two kilometer long blue brick crossed with an aircraft carrier.

Actually, one of the short stories has one of those as the flagship of the Ultramarines fleet (named the Gauntlet of Macragge).andrewgpaul wrote:Also, the old (sadly, probably non-canon now) Gothic-class battleship.

And where might one catch a glimpse of these older Tyranid designs?
For that matter, is there a model of that Gothic class cruiser for sale to the general public?

It's been in several descriptions of the battle of Mcragge. That type of vessel is still the one canonically used by the tyranids at that time. The old wraithships are also still canon.Bob the Gunslinger wrote:Oh? *raises eyebrow*

Not AFAIK, you may be able to mail order it.

Well, at least we got to see one take a Sharlin down with it, much more then what any Omega has doneStofsk wrote:It's a pity we rarely saw those awesome vessels engage in battles they WON, as opposed to being the Minbari punching bags of the universe. 'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

The Omega kicked Streib ass! Oh, and I think that you can see the Nova firing away in the background in one of the battle scenes. I don't remember which one, I just remember thinking "huh... blue bolts."

Or, just built somewhere else. There's obvious design differences between the Gothic and Armageddon sectors when it comes to ship design.NecronLord wrote:I wouldn't bet on it. What I was getting at, is rather tenuous; both Spacefleet and BFG have Cobra Destroyers and Firestorm frigates. Assuming these are different ship designs with identical combat abilities (ie, both types of Cobra), then, if the model sizes are anything to go by, the old Spacefleet battleships are the equivalent of (small-ish) BFG cruisers. Doesn't rule out the old sword-shaped ships still existing, but does create a possible conflict.
However, that could be explained as 'scale creep'; as ships got larger over the years, what was once a battleship becomes a light cruiser in comparison to newer vessels. Compare the Not Invented Here from Banks' Excession; 10 or so km long, originally built as a General Systems Vehicle, downgraded to a Medium Systems Vehicle as more recent ships reached 100km long.

"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
