Is this in line with other times that unarmoured Daleks are shown? Pardon me... haven't seen much since the Tom Baker years, and I only caught a handful of episodes then.

They sort of look like the head of this "half dalek half human". Obviously they didn't have that humanoid form seen in that pic.

I'm just curious exactly why Sec decides to take a human body. He's got a Time War tank, does he really need a suit that bad? :)

At first the head looks just like a rubber puppet, but I think I have enough confidence in the production team to light it, film it and put sound effects on it so it doesn't look too cheesy. They did a really good job with the Face of Boe, I thought.

Now I'm wishing for a 2 hour (or more) Doctor Who special concerning the Great Time War. Unfortunately this would probably require either or both Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston to show up it'd be impossible to pull off... unless RTD goes back on his disinterest of showing former incarnation of the Doctor in his new series.

I've not read the Magazine, but Sec was shown in the preview, so that's presumably not him. Much more likely to be a hybrid-clone made by the cult.

Besides, if Sec doesn't found Coca Cola, who will?

But hybrid Daleks are a blasphemy. The Dalek that Rose activated in Season 1 hated the results of simply being touched by a human.

Oh well, if the Emperor Dalek can go mad and incorporate human filth in creating a new army of Daleks, I suppose Sec can.
Is this in line with other times that unarmoured Daleks are shown?
Erm ... sort of:

"Since when did the daleks have a concept of blasphemy?"

They've toyed with incorporating human elements before, though that has snapped them in the ass, if they're stuck, and need a plan, incoroporating a lesser race in some way might be tolerable. The real daleks would probably just shoot the demi-daleks when done with them.

It's (part) Dalek. It's supposed to be ugly as sin. That's the only constant about dalek appearance.

Why? Sure, it looks a bit lame there. But that's 1- because it's not moving and 2 - because it's in a well illuminated closeup, relatively dry, and 3- because it's not speaking.

Perhaps next week's episode features the Dalek's being kidnapped by President Amadinejad and only being released when given a goodybag and a natty suit.

The suit's kinda weird, but it's spot on for the era.

It's not the specific appearance, it's the fundamental change to the Daleks and what makes them so cool (in my opinion). What I found cool about the Daleks was that externally they were these utterly un-lifelike robots, but inside you knew was this squidy being that was the true Dalek. This completely organic humanoid Dalek may spoil their enigma. Up until now the Daleks organic form has been mainly hidden, only shown occasionally. Seeing an humanoid Dalek for a large part of the show and this being a possible recurring theme, may make the Daleks just another monster of the week.

We saw the Emperor dalek swimming around in his goldfish bowl all through The Parting of the Ways and they're not ruined yet.

Well, the Fishbowl was in the middle of his bigass unfolding Dalek-Body...

I'm wondering what they'll do for the voice of the hybrid. The Classic Dalek-Voice is an in-universe sythiziser, with the dalek itself only able to make a sort of odd squeeking noise. I hope that can give it that constantly-pissed-off-ness that you get from a standard Dalek, without making it all cheesey. :?

Also correct me if I'm wrong but haven't the Daleks pulled similar stuff like this before? I seem to recall one instance of humanoid dalek agents jailbreaking Davros and one instance of human brains plugged into Dalek battle armor. Plus the human-based Daleks two seasons back.

And that was with the fundie Daleks, the Cult of Skarro was supposed to be the free thinking bunch who came up with potentially unclean but still effective methods of extermination.

It's certainly likely to be different. They appear to have human jaws and presumaby mouths.

The humanoids were just humans being paid. Human dead were used in Revalation (IIRC) of the Daleks by davros. The 'human factor' was added to Daleks in Evil of the Daleks.

It's not unprecedented that Dalek mutants have been infused with no-Dalek DNA and on two occasions whole Dalek armies have been made out of processed human corpses, but it seems odd that Dalek Sec has decided to make unusual Dalek-human hybrids that are still mostly humanoid and not fully encased in Dalek travel machines (although Dalek Sec and his surviving Dalek compatriots are working with limited resources in 1930s NY so an army of Dalek-human "squid heads" is the best solution).

Apparently Sec 'takes a human body', and I'd assumed he used supertech to do it... not Frankenstein surgery. I'm not sure how this is an awesome plan to revitalise the Dalek species...

But hey, the Doctor gives up the TL game, so maybe Sec is looking at retirement too. :)

Meh... That suit doesn't do a thing for him. Not his colours at all. Some horrible hybridised alien freaks simply have no sense of style to speak of.
