Sarah Connor Chronicles trailer is up
Ain't It Cool News has got the videos on Youtube.
Well, at least the special effects are movie-quality. I don't know if there's much else I can say, though. Who the hell is the brunette passing off for Sarah Connor, and who's the cutesy girl John meets up with that knows how to jury-rig remote bombs?

So they want to make Terminator into a cash cow
...and muck up the continuity even worse than what Mostow did with T3

Yes. And, she's an excellent choice. It's not like she hasn't played a superweapon before.Crazedwraith wrote:... Was that River as a Terminator I just saw? Oh dear.
But the woman playing Sarah Conner isn't all that impressive to be honest. She's too pretty and not enough of a hard-ass. Although I like the kid playing John. He's a whole hell of a lot better than that squirrely guy from T3.
Although I think I'll give it a shot.
TithonusSyndrome wrote:It pretty much looks like a Terminator version of Smallville, right down to the teenage love interest of whom no mention is made later on and the bent canon.
Smallville is a reinterpretation of the Superman story, so there's no real canon it has to adhere to beyond "Clark Kent == Superman". And Terminator involves time travel, so it's not like anything is set in stone anyway. They can bend the canon all they want so long as they do it in a compelling way.

This is fucking awesome!!
I mean sure that cheap-ass actor that plays Terminator can never replace Arnie and his charisma but still that's not really important for a show about THE TERMINATOR right?
It's not like genius of James Cameron+Arnie+major budget can't be reproduced on 20-episodes per season TV production right?
This series will surely take it's place with Smallvile as true quality time programming. Maybe next series could be Batman in his teenage years. You know his first love and shit. Yeah that would be great. Maybe they could retcon Joker to be his best friend (like Luther in Smallvile).
Oh man that would rule so hard.

Hmm...
Might be worth at least checking out. Durandal's explanation of the series being conceptually similar to Smallville in its approach to the material (as an alternative reinterpretation) depletes a lot of the amount of nerd rage I could have.
Really, if that is what they're doing, then I don't have much of a problem with them going ahead and doing what they want (this kind of stuff happens between various anime and manga adaptations/offshoots all the time, for example).
I suppose my only complaint, based on the trailer and preview clips, is that the show seems a little more focused on John than Sarah. Also, when this project was initially announced, I assumed it would have "taken place" between T1 and T2, rather than seemingly between T2 and T3...

I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Why so many people in this thread seem to be knee-jerking about romantic sub-plots? You guys do realize that romance is is one of those things that actual human beings do get involved in, right? And that such sub-plots serve to humanize characters and allow viewers to relate to them, right? Because not every viewer is a sci-fi dork who is bitter about not getting dates in high school.

Holy shit. Summer Glau as a Terminator? Say what you will, i'm going to see this show.
Edit: Two things I don't like about the clips. Those retarded "machine" sounds the evil Terminator makes whenever he moves. Not to mention the shitty actress who is completely failing to play Sarah Conner.
Oh well, at least Summer should be redeeming. I hope.

Best care anywhere.
You guys are all so full of hate! Give it a chance, you don't know how awesome it is, and if the whole first season sucks, well, maybe the second season will improve!JLTucker wrote:My thoughts exactly. It probably will not even last an entire season.
On the flip side, being 'similar to Smallville' sounds like a really, really bad thing.
So, I guess something changed after T3 to make Skynet try something between T2 and T3? Or else its just an alternate version.
Time travel makes my head hurt.
And Summer Glau as the terminator doesn't really impress me. The "come with me if you want to live" doesn't come off well. She's a terminator, but she doesn't have to be Arnie. And she shouldn't try to be since it's obvious she'll fail. Constant references like that will just make her character worse off since it's just annoying.
It's not too bad, but I don't have overwhelming hopes for it. It might be entertaining.

Yeah, that looks pretty bad. Is it worth watching just for the hot female terminator? Maybe, I suppose, as long as the fast forward control is within easy reach.
In sci-fi romantic sub-plots should come into play later, after the characters are all introduced and the main premise has had decent development. Which means that looking at the Terminator franchise as a whole, romantic subplots being a big part of the TV series is fine. I agree that this isn't the reason why it will suck.Durandal wrote:Why so many people in this thread seem to be knee-jerking about romantic sub-plots? Taking a dump doesn't tell you anything about how the character handles a situation, you dip-shit.Kane Starkiller wrote:Taking a dump is also something many people do and I don't want to watch a series about that either. Especially since I can smell from here that it will be handled badly.

John Connor's a teen in this. Despite the end of the world, I'd find it too strange if he wasn't thinking about girls and trying to get laid. Especially if a hot girl was around trying to "protect" him.
It makes me wonder if John Connor sent her back. And exactly what he reprogrammed her to do.

Well, accidental pregnancy isn't an option, that's already a plus. Fighting the forces of a genocidal AI after the second trimester is strictly frowned upon.

This sounds cripplingly lame. Unless handled by quality writers (PROTIP - this is unlikely) the whole teenage boy + hot robot thing is just going to be puerile bullshit.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:I expect at least some hilarity to ensue when he inevitably tries to put the moves on his hot girl robot guardian.
