Gandalf vs. Tyrael
Who would win in this situation? This is a one on one battle (no outside forces interfering). Tyrael the archangel with his sword Azurewrath against Gandalf the Istari with his sword Glamdring. Both are free to use their powers against one another.

Okay, it's possible to fight Diablo in Hell at level 65. I think that Aragorn is AT LEAST that strong, seeing as how he's more than a hundred years old and is very powerful for a human. Since Tyrael couldn't even kill a much weaker form of Diablo in Act II, and Gandalf and Aragorn both knew that Aragorn didn't have a chance of even slowing the Balrog down, I think that Gandalf takes this one pretty easily.

Just a nitpick, but Azurewrath was Izual's sword, not Tyrael's; and it sucks. Tyrael never demonstrates any particularly astonishing abilities and has to get humans to do his dirty work for him.

Tyreal also had to deal with Baal as well.Master of Ossus wrote:Okay, it's possible to fight Diablo in Hell at level 65. I think tyrael would've had a good chance of killing Diablo if Marius hadn't freed Baal.Master of Ossus wrote:Okay, it's possible to fight Diablo in Hell at level 65. But judging from stuff I've seen, I would have to say that Gandalf would most likely win.

Oh, and Gandalf wouldn't do anything while Tyrael was flying over?Next of Kin wrote:It would be interesting to replace the Balrog with Tyrael at the bridge of Khazadhum. Tyrael would have flown over to Gandalf, picked him up with his wing/tendrils at then thrown him into the black abyss.

Aragorn has a really long life span, so it's quite possible that this is manifested by him showing aging slow, so while he appears to only be 30 years old, he's really 3 times that...

Simply because he doesn't use a banishing spell in the books doesn't mean he couldn't use a banishing spell at all.Next of Kin wrote:And where does Gandalf exactly use this spell in the books? Maybe he should cast the super mega Hadoken o' doom instead!DPDarkPrimus wrote:Cast a spell of banishing, perhaps?

You do know Azurewrath isn't Tyrael's balde
Also as for this goes...I say Gandalf, if for nothing else we have at least an idea of his powers. Tyrael...zilch aside from two arch-deamons can chain him.

what are gandalfs powers? he can throw flaming acorns? ive only read the hobbit and the 3 lotr and gandolf doesnt do anything that would put him at higher then say (in Dnd terms) a 6th level mage. (except the whole jesus thing) Do the other books Tolken wrote state different?

We know that he can take on multiple Nazgul at once and have a pretty good chance of coming out ahead. Then when he's Gandalf the White I believe when he goes out to save Faramir he bolts one of the flying Nazgul from a long ways off.ArchMage wrote:what are gandalfs powers? he can throw flaming acorns? ive only read the hobbit and the 3 lotr and gandolf doesnt do anything that would put him at higher then say (in Dnd terms) a 6th level mage. Well the Nazgul dont look/seem impressive at all. what do they have? black horses, then black flying drakes (or whatever), No special powers that i know of (other then being able to see whoever uses the Ring)Silver wrote: We know that he can take on multiple Nazgul at once and have a pretty good chance of coming out ahead. I still do see any reason why Gandalf could beat an ArchAngle.
In LotR all the magic powes/people SEEM powerful but never do anything to get that title (well compaired to say DnD). of course to normal hobbits, anyone who can thow flaming acorns at people and have cast low level illusions would seem powerful.
I say Tyrial wins
