The Invasion of the Body Snatchers Orig. Theatrical rel WTF?
I was watching the 1956 Theatrical Release of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers today in my Sci Fi Lit. class (gotta have those humanities credits ) and I hadn't seen it in a while.
It was about as good as I remembered until... The scene where he Kisses Becky and suddenly she's been body snatched.
I enjoy a good fairly cerebral (if McCarthian) thriller as much as the next guy, but when was Becky snatched?
It looks a lot like she just randomly fell asleep for an instant while (or just an instant before) being kissed and woke up a Pod Person, only without the y'know, Pod.
I presume it was while she was in the Cave and Miles was investigating the radio, but even if that's true, where was the pod?
I tried looking the scene up on IMDB and Wikipedia but both summarized it exactly as it appears, without any mention of the flaws.
Any one more familiar than me with the film have an explanation? Or am I just crazy, destined to wander the highways of America shouting "You're Next!" at the passing autos?

I would have thought that it would have been mentioned in IMDB and Wikipedia if that were the case.
DarkPrimus: Do you know what cut that was? it would make a lot more sense that way, but it Wasn't in the Theatrical release.

IMDb doesn't always pick everything up.ThatGuyFromThatPlace wrote:I would have thought that it would have been mentioned in IMDB and Wikipedia if that were the case.
It is a plot hole (and the film's biggest) because as you yourself described the scene, there is literally no point in time that Becky could have been replaced by a Pod People duplicate: she literally dozes off for a moment and just seems to wakes up as one.
Which reminds me that I honestly don't really get how the whole "Pod People" thing is supposed to work, upon closer examination with what we're presented with. It seems kind of a mish-mash of body replacement and mind possession, depending on the particular scene.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

infected? since when was their infection? was that part of the '78 movie"
in the orig you're supposed to fall asleep with a ready pod nearby and your brain get's zapped into the body formed from the Pod.
unless apparently you're the main character's love interest.

There's a remake coming out soon, starring some actress or other. Concept is that astronauts bring back some kind of alien disease from a mission - it's spread through the air, and once you're infected, as I said, if you fall asleep you get taken over. Same personality, same mind, just...priorities shifted. And no emotions.ThatGuyFromThatPlace wrote:infected? since when was their infection? was that part of the '78 movie"
