ReBoot gets 3 more movies

Yahoo Movies said:
Early CG TV show gets "ReBoot"
Monday July 23 2:52 AM ET

"ReBoot," one of the earliest computer-animated episodic TV series, will be redeveloped as a trilogy of feature-length films by Rainmaker Animation.

Originally produced in 1994, the series centered on life within a computer, where good forces fought invading viruses and videogames were viewed from within.

"ReBoot" was created by MainFrame Entertainment, which was acquired by and renamed Rainmaker in 2006. The show aired for several seasons on ABC, YTV and Cartoon Network.

"The idea is to relaunch the brand in a new way," said Rainmaker Animation executive vice president Paul Gertz, who will oversee the project.

To do this, Rainmaker has entered into a strategic alliance with Zeros 2 Heroes, a Web site set to launch Monday (July 23) to provide a social network for comic book fans.

Five undiscovered writers chosen by Rainmaker were selected to work with the animation studio's production teams to prepare a pitch for the new "ReBoot" story line. These will be posted on the Zeros 2 Heroes site Thursday (July 26), the opening day of San Diego Comic-Con International. Those who visit the site will be able to work with each production team to help refine the ideas for "ReBoot" and later vote and select a favorite pitch. The brainstorming environment is what the site calls "Think Ups."

A Web-based comic, based on the selected story, will be published this year. Production on the features will commence at that time.

"'ReBoot's' legions of fans have been incredibly loyal and continue to keep the property alive on dozens of fan sites," Gertz said. "We're very enthusiastic about how we're reconceiving this classic series by creating an innovative way for those fans -- who were kids when the series started -- to use new technology to help guide us."

Zeros 2 Heroes president Matt Toner sees the Internet as a democratizing medium. "It takes away gatekeepers," he said. "We want to connect the fans with the producers ... and let them determine what the next hits will be. When it comes to long-standing genre entertainment properties, the fans are the real experts."

More ReBoot is usually always a good thing, however, I'm kinda worried if this is a reboot of ReBoot. Makes me kind of think, what's not getting rebooted these days?

I want more than just movies, I want a new series. :)

But I wonder what Matt was thinking when he said this:
"We want to connect the fans with the producers ... and let them determine what the next hits will be. When it comes to long-standing genre entertainment properties, the fans are the real experts."
I'm sorry but the fans should have very limited influence over anything.

Is that in disagreement or in agreement. One reason why I don't think fans should have a large influence is to look at NMA about their ravings over Bestheda's way handling of Fallout 3.

I believe that the fans can be used as a sounding board when throwing off ideas but they should not be in control over it.

Listening to fans to much is how you end up with a minor character that had three lines in three movies becoming "Teh Uber!!" and a major character in another three.

Reboot was really heavy on the computer puns early on. Combined with a cast that was very hit or miss. (Young Enzo especially was annoying.)

Later on it started getting a little more interesting.

I liked it a fair bit, it could have been better, but it was still good enough once they stopped being purely episodic.

On the other hand, I never got into Beast Wars, or it's two follow ups. :P Liked enough of the characters, but the execution never clicked with me.

I hate to ask, but I missed large segments of this series, and am most interested in knowing where I might find some remnants of this very old cartoon.

There's always You Tube. Pretty sure at the least the last two movies/suplimental seasons are on DVD.

Yeah it'd be nice if they kept the original's style and simply carried on with a redone ending or something (yeah, Evangelion influenced cash cow stuff, but it'd work).

Either way, we shall see how this goes. I've still yet to see the movies to the original series since ITV (well, the kid's section CITV which now seems defunct sadly, bar their dedicated channel, so we can have more shitty drama repeats when kids come home) who showed it here, cut it off before the final series from what I recall way back in '97 I think.

Reboot was one of my favorite shows when I was younger, and I recently found and watched the 3rd and 4th seasons on YouTube (anyone who wants the links can PM me).

I was about to post this story myself. Personally, I am very enthusiastic about this. On re-watching the series, I found that the story arcs were INCREDIBLY well-done, with every episode building into a very complex and interconnected universe. Only Babylon 5 did it better. When Matrix found Bob on the Web, I cheered, and when they both came back to Dot in Mainframe, I almost cried.

Its about freaking time, I say.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I thought beast wars was an abomination, but ReBoot gets major points for just being what it was, the first fully CGI episodic TV show, and that's ignoring the fact that it was a good show as well!

Indeed, I think it had the best writing of any saturday morning cartoon show ever produced.

I hope they get rid of Bob's sudden "I don't want to kill viruses" baggage.

Tony Jay and Megabyte will be a tough act to follow, villain-wise. I hope they can come up with some good ideas.

Hmm.... I think that I'll wait until I hear something a bit more promising before getting optimistic about a reboot of the show. (What was wrong with at least finishing the cliffhanger? "Start running" - Bah)

The problem was that when they scripted that cliffhanger...they were planning on making another season. It just got canceled at the last second.
