An Imperial Guard transport hurtling through the warp finds itself yanked into the Gears of War universe, and is heavily damaged in the process. The transport makes a landing in a devastated urban center on Sera that is more of a crash than anything, attracting the attention of the Coalition of Ordered Governments and Locust Horde. Guard survivors number roughly 1,000, with a few of low-level sanctioned psykers. No vehicles survive the crash, and the ship itself is irreparable with current supplies. The Locust and the Coalition of Ordered Governments both send bog-standard infantry to investigate.
What happens, both in the short term and the long run? Assume the Locust are at roughly their "Hardcore" level of difficulty in regards to their durability (meaning they can take significant numbers of direct hits to the torso from the common Lancer or Hammerburst), though are incapable of taking multiple headshots. Further assume they're not much smarter than seen in-game, utilizing basic flanking, cover, and charges. Delta Squadron has not yet succeeded in their mission in mapping and bombing the Locust tunnel network.

While the number sound like a boon, good luck getting that many soldiers into the tunnels easily- and where the hell are they going to camp out at nigh when the Kryll is out and about?
Best thing to do is have most of them picked up by Ravens and taken to the military command for debriefings, and send along a few of the guard with Delta as a bit extra muscle for the mission.

What IG are they?
Genero-guards?
Or do we have Stormtroopers and other specialists?
Given the firepower displayed in GoW I'd say that a few heavy weapons teams would make VERY short work of most Locusts (even the big bastards). Hell a lascannon would seem to have a similar destructive capacity to the damn killer satellites.

We're talking run-of-the-mill guardsmen here, just to clarify.
Could the Guardsmen even be relied upon to cooperate? This isn't exactly a long-lost Imperial bastion waiting to accept the Emperor with open arms. I know there's the whole "xenos vs. humans" element, but would that be enough to get the surviving Guard and their officers to play ball?[/code]Best thing to do is have most of them picked up by Ravens and taken to the military command for debriefings

This is the Guard, not the Marines Malevolent. They could be relied on to help them out, after all there are a hell of a lot of human worlds that are only marginally part of the Imperium or are just plain lost. The idea of cooperating with a bunch of humans with the intent of bringing them into the fold later is not at all unusual.Tanasinn wrote:Could the Guardsmen even be relied upon to cooperate?
