Resident Evil: Extinction thread - SPOILERS!
Well, no one else seems to have bothered to make one, so I will.
Some initial reactions:
The reason given for most of the world being a desert was lame. I mean, it would have made much more sense, since the movie too place in Nevada anyway, to have the desert just have reclaimed cities and towns. No need for all this "the virus mutates and kills off plants as well as people and animals!"
The movie was just too short and too much of a setup for the inevitable fourth. I think they should have just completely cut the bird attack on the convoy, then added another hour where Alice and her friends travel around taking out the evil members of Umbrella.
Also, the boss battle at the end was far too short and disappointing. Seriously, it would have been way cooler if they had gone through the entire training course, with the guy getting more and more damaged, up until Alice finally finishes him.
And what was it with the caravan not checking out the black guy after he admitted to being attacked? Also, why weren't they sent into buildings in pairs, to prevent what happened?
Despite all these nit-picks, I actually did enjoy the movie. I just think it was too short, and the plot holes kinda niggled at me. I do think that it was worth seeing, with a little brain turning off.

Proud member of the no sigs club.
I agree completely, little too short, more than likely going to be a fourth unless this one bombs. I didn't like that they killed off Olivera. He was pretty much my favorite character, and then the thing with LJ was so... Romero, which is one thing this series has been fairly good at staying away from for the most part. All in all I liked the action, the scene with the dogs was pretty creepy and cool.

If you look at the end scene where the two Alice's are standing next to each other, Clone alice is fuzzy and soft, indicating a bad photoshop job. I do understand that it's stock from the first movie but it should have been of much better resolution than what was used.

Ellie Sattler: Dinosaurs eat man … woman inherits the earth.
Jurassic Park
Agree on the above, and that Olivera should have lived (one of the other women would have died in the truck).
Then you could get a cute scene later, where Alice meets him, and he has been behaving around the children (jailbait all of them), and she smiles, teasing him about having to stay honest the whole time.
She might tease him a bit, then the others start to get out, one at a time. The expression on his face would have been priceless.

This movie was garbage. It was a handful of interesting scenes strung together with bullshit. The whole thing lacked any sort of direction, and when the plot finally did get started, the movie was over, the best characters were dead, and everyone else ran off to Alaska so they could get murdered in 30 Days of Night.
There was roughly zero character development for the new additions, nobody talked about what happend to Jill Valentine or the little girl, Claire Redfield never once brought up her brother, despite him being prominently featured in both of the previous movies (and Alice being partially responsible for his death).
Oh yes, and Las Vegas. Reclaimed by the desert? Sure, I can believe that. But so badly gone that virtually nothing of the Strip survived? Oh come on. I'm supposed to believe that all of the Hotels got knocked down and swallowed by the sands, but the replicas of the Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty stayed up? It was like Las Vegas had been nuked, not covered in sand.
I actually enjoyed the previous movies. They were fun popcorn flicks, but this one crossed the threshold of enjoyment and when into "bad". The moment I knew this movie was going downhill? Slow-mo WHEN NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENS. I've seen that technique before, in the second Matrix movie. Guess what, it sucked then, and it sucks now. I hope this series ends now, because this film was so lame it's just not even funny.

Huh, I thought for sure he was introduced as Chris Redfield.Beowulf wrote:Claire Redfield's brother was not in either of the two previous movies. It's a different guy.

Ok, hil I have not seen the movie I have seen the previews of Las Vegas reclaimed by "The Desert"
Living in the deserts of Arizona, can I just ask, where the HELL does all that SAND come from???
The Deserts in that part of the world, IE Las Vegas, are dusty, dry airas of dirt. There are very Few Sand dunes out there. The previes I saw in the movies show sand dunes swallowing up VAST amounts ofcities. We are talking about a fricking BUTTload of sand.
If they want to show Las Vegas "reclaimed" by the desert.. The would show lotrs of sage brush, Cactus, some prai grass and sparse vegatitan. I've seen photos of the Vegas area around 150 years ago, and it doesn't look that bad! A nice place you could go camping... But gues what... NO Sand Dunes!

Do you mean Matt, the guy who got turned into Nemisis? His sister died in the first movie, he killed her zombie with the picture cube thing.Hotfoot wrote:Huh, I thought for sure he was introduced as Chris Redfield.Beowulf wrote:Claire Redfield's brother was not in either of the two previous movies. Haven't seen the movie, but I'll echo Crossroad's complaint, as I've spent over five years living in Nevada:
What's shown at least in the previews, and from what I've seen here, also in the movie, is not Nevada desert. Nevada desert is scrubland, filled with sagebrush, relatively stationary grit, pebbles, and larger rocks, containing hills that do not move around when the wind hits them, with geological features such as hills, valleys, canyons, etc.
I don't have any real urge to watch the movie now.

There are dunes on that side of the continent. Just, you know, most of them are hell and gone from the arid cactus land of Las Vegas.
I'm.. I'm kind of indifferent to the movie at this point. The fact is, I didn't go to see a resident evil movie. I went to see a Milla Jovovich kicks ass movie, that happened to also kind of not really be a resident evil movie.
So, they get rid of the entire reason I saw the second movie in the first place (The chick playing Jill is so hot it almost hurts), drop the little girl into nameless aether (I'm guessing she's dead, since they'd run out of serum eventually, which means bye-bye keeping the virus in check), introduce 1 dimensional but like-able characters who's faceless 'nicknames' are just there to get eaten, and then they kill off the only people I actually liked.
Major Spoilerz?
Olivera didn't need to die. That entire cockamamie 'scheme' of his was almost entirely pointless. I admit, the way he went out was wildly entertaining, but the reasons were the pinnacle of weaksauce.
Since when the hell did Claire smoke?
And on the subject of the plot... What the hell were they trying to test with the clones? Run them through an hour long simulation to see if they somehow spontaneously grew Alice powers? You know, not taking into account the super-spy training, the life experiences, the amount of time it took her to grow into her powers?
I also don't see how there can really be a conflict at this point. The super fast, super strong, super smart telekinetic mind melting Alice now has an army of hundreds of potentially super fast, super strong, super smart telekinetic mind melting Alices. Just give them some kukris and make them go all ghurka on the bad guys. You could have like... elite alice infiltration squads!
Oh, another question. Why, oh dear god why, in a post apocalyptic, fuel shortage world, would you have a platoon of GAS GUZZLING cars? Every single car in that survivor's group was designed for power over short distances, not for duration. Also, except maybe for the H2 there, all of those cars are Unleaded. What did the DIESEL truck run on? Or am I just getting way too nitpicky?
Mind, I didn't think of ANY of this during the movie. I was too busy clapping as Milla Jovovich tore apart zombies with kukris and fantasizing about the jailbait.
