Transformers out on DVD

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

Since I didn't see a thread already I figured I'd post this.

I actually got the DVD yesterday and already watched it a few times. Am curious what others think of the extras thus far.

My special tin case with comic won't be coming yet because my frakkin' debit card is not working online. Thanks very much, HSBC.

I've got a YARRR version for now. Waiting for the full one. It's as awesome as it was in the cinemas :)

(I finally got to get a good look at Megatron's flail in the MBE1 room, yay!)

My "acquired" copy for checking certain scenes needs to be replaced by the
DVD quality. I just wish the models view extra was on SD copies, rather than HD. Least I saw it on IMAX.

And I wish the official soundtrack I purchased had all the tracks the bootleg has. Ah well.

His hands are funny given they don't look like a humanoid one, but the fingers seem to fold back and the stump is the actual flail. It also has an energy weapon there, but not the extending rifle "Mr. Fusion Cannon" we see against Optimus.

Even after all the viewings, I don't know where Optimus gets that cannon he uses only once and it's not the one on my FCUK T-shirt or the pre-production art. Then again, the movie didn't show everything they had to offer, so I hear.

Bought the special edition from Target Tuesday. The case is a transforming Optimus Prime. My son has already watched it 3 times.

I picked up the special edition from Wal-Mart, because it had a prequel story narrated by Peter Cullen. I wanted that over the transforming case Target offered.

But man, did it hurt to have to go into a Wal-Mart.

I think the transforming case looked silly, myself.

I picked up the 2-disc edition at Best Buy and got a $20 Transformers figure for $15 thanks to a deal they had.

I also wanted that prequel thing they had at Wal-Mart too though, so... I uh, bought that as well.

I'm looking for someone right now to pawn off the single-disc movie on for like $10. If nothing else, I suppose I can take it to Half-Price Books. :P

The case I ordered is just black tin, with the Autobot and Decepticon logos on opposite sides. What's the transforming case look like? Is it a hologram or something?

IIRC, if you've seen the Target Corp. transforming gift cards they released when the movie was still in theaters, they look like a larger version. I'll try and dig up a picture, but they look pretty lame.

I got the Amazon.com 2-disc version which came with 2 copies of the movie (Disc 1) and no Disc 2, so it's going back for a replacement.

Of course, I've watched it about 4 times, including once with commentary.

I'm disappointed there was just the one commentary. I was hoping for at least one from other members of the production team, FX team, whatnot. Seems like there's more to talk about than 2 hours of Bay congratulating himself on making the movie. :P

This is hardly news, their relationship was in the tie-in prequel comic.

The Wal-Mart exclusive "Beginnings" DVD is quite interesting.

It's basically a condensed version of the prequel comic book from IDW, with voices. Some of the voices are pretty dull, and a lot of the lines are artificially sped up... why, I don't know, it's not like it's that long at 19 minutes.

But there is a huge amount of dialouge by Bumblebee, and it is Mark Ryan doing the lines, so if you want to know what he might sound like in TF2, it's definitely worth checking out.

Can you blame the guy? He's finally redeemed himself after Bad Boys II and Pearl Harbour.

I was happily surprised to hear Frank Welker as Megatron again. Definately sounded a little more raspy than in the 80's, but it was good to hear him in that role.

Screw you. Any movie that tacks on a forty minute invasion of Cuba with some CIA contacts and a cousin in the underground as prep automatically gets a pass from me.

I'm watching this again now. It's still entertaining. Can't wait for the sequel.

I thought Frank died? Why wasn't he used to voice Megatron this time around?

From what I gathered, he auditioned and it came down to him and Hugo Weaving, and Weaving got it. But he voiced Megatron in the new Transformers video game and in the prequel DVD.

Specifically, Bay thought he sounded too old for the role/design of the character.

And Peter Cullen isn't? Bah! This is a slight damper on my enjoyment of the movie.

Bay thought that Welker wasn't the right fit for the movie Megatron. I agree.
