Galactica Force Addition: F-302s & SGC Help

Post by Chevron_Seven »

While Galactica is at Ragnar Anchorage they discover a Stargate. The gate is broken so it only allows one way travel from earth to it. However a MALP happens to come through while they are there. The Colonials explain their situation but Earth is unable to give them directions for some reason so they are in the same situation of having to blunder about to find earth. After some negotiations as the fleet hides in the safety of the anchorage Earth decides that the Colonials are worth helping.

In a unprecedented move though the SGC sends through 24 F-302s disassembled with crews for them and ground crews to support them. In addition a very large stock of weapons is sent through with them. Assume the stock is large enough to fully load each F-302 at least 20 times each. The weapons are a mix of anti-ship and standard missiles for engaging fighters. In addition they send through a large stock of spare parts and fuel. Assume that Galactica can eventually start to make fuel once that stock is depleted and can manufacture spare parts. Once the weapons are depleted the Galactica can adapt Colonial weapons to the F-302s. The F-302s of course have to launch from the flight pods likes the Raptors rather than the quicker tubes.

In addition the SGC sends through a single Puddle Jumper with a crew and packs it to the gills with drones for it. They also send through an additional 20 Mark VIII warheads. They also promise to send out a ship to search for the ragtag fleet and you can assume that ship will find them at a period of time equal to where the show is at currently.

How much does this enhance Galactica's abilities to hold off the Cylons?

See Chris O'Ferrell for the details.

And then kick him into posting more chapters.

The Cylons won't know what hit them, but there had better be a lot of spare parts shipped with the F-302s. Fighters are notorious for needing something like ten man-hours maintenance for every hour in flight(!)

Are these F-302s not sporting--(yawns)--*modern* weaponry?

Or have they been appropriately wanked?

F-302s are presumably capable of, like Death Gliders, flying at tens of thousands of gravities. Opening the cockpit and spitting at an enemy ship could conceivably be lethal in one of these things. As a matter of fact, yes and no. They have conventional bullets (which are quite effective in nBSG) and wanked-out missiles.
