Orks in the Star Wars Galaxy

Post by Zor »

One day on some ork planet, an Mekboy is doing his thing, working on an usual experiment of some sort, which goes off and as a unexpected result, sucks him a couple of nearby orks and his Grots through a warp annomally and drops them on Naboo a few days before the Trade Federation occupation in the middle of some ugly forest about 1000 klicks from any city, Gungan or Nabian, of note. The device is busted and they start and as such, they start spreading spores.

What happens?

The Gungans are briefly not the most annoying species on the planet. Until the Trade Federation uses its millions of soldiers to put the orks down.

Naboo gets a nasty fungal infection, but quarantine methods keep it from ever spreading to the greater galaxy. Droids/clones/mercenaries may need to be hired to keep the orks down until that happens. Alternatively, orks become the traditional sport military target of the Gungan Armed Forces.

Once Orks have been on a planet with a habitat like Naboo can you ever get rid of them? Would some sort of extreme measures (chemical or biological weapons, or orbital bombardment) be necessary? I think they're too much of a threat to risk them getting off-world.

Razing the area works. They're not replicators, either, they're not that great at spreading.

The Imperium appears to consider burning ground 7 meters deep sufficient to deal with Orkish spores.

As long as you are vigilant, and crack down hard on any outbreaks of crazy green space hooligans, you don't really have to lay waste to a planet with orks on.

I think dense forests and jungles would be a pain in the arse though.

Orks are basically bioengineered shock troops designed to expand and spread and survive and fight. They're part animal and part fungus, and reproduce by emitting millions of spores which grow into whatever Orkid species is required by the existing Ork population and biosphere.

A single Ork is quite literally capable of birthing an entire planetary population of Orks within a few centuries.

I guess if all else fails, there's always the option of a thorough BDZ.

Have the battledroids replace their blasters with flamethrowers, and swarm the Ork positions with battledroids to burn out the green bastards. Swarm them again to burn out any survivors. Swarm them again to burn out any spores left by the survivors. Swarm... Well, you get the idea.

If battledroids are unavailable, the Gungans with their theater shields and plasma balls (what are those weapons called, anyways?) might be able to do the job, but they'd take heavy casualties.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Gungan theatre shields aren't going to be very useful: Orkz love to get in close and personal, and the shields don't stop infantry from walking through them. I highly, highly doubt a Gungan could hope to hold its own against an ork.

The idea is for the shield to protect the Gungans from bullets and shrapnel while Jar Jar's kinsmen lob plasma balls (or whatever those weapons are called) at the Orks. I know the Gungans will suffer horrendous casualties in combat against the green bastards, but I think they have a chance.

Somebody notices the problem and does what the villains of Star Wars do best. Orbital bombardment. Your spores don't threaten someone thousands of kilometers above you. Even the Trade Federation had the ability to sterilize a planet, I'd imagine.

Anything that doesn't have a way off a planet is pretty ineffective in the Star Wars galaxy. Flood, Orcs, The Hulk... All would be unable to get off planet quickly enough to be a major problem.

Nevermind what advantages Palpatine would manage to get from such invaders. It could move his plans along a fair amount faster.

According to AotC ICS, They burn unprotected organic infantry to death. That's part of why Clone Troopers have that armour.

After the main Orc threat has been dealt with, you just deploy tens of thousands of probe droids to carefully investigate the entire surface of the plantet looking for Ork spores, which are a dead giveaway to pockets of Orks fauna starting to grow, then have more droids come in an vaporize said pockets, then vaporize the spores.

After a couple of years of this kind of activity, even assuming the Republic can't simply develop a bioweapon that neutralizes the spores on a biosphere wide level and thus prevent ANY future outbreaks, the Ork threat should be more or less contained.

How viable is orbital bombardment of spores they don't know to look for on a planet they're supposed to be occupying?

Whats morel likely to happen is that they'll kill the initial wave of orks and call mission accomplished. Over the next few months and years, the people of Naboo are going to have an interesting problem to deal with.

Then maybe bombardments.

The people of Naboo have some formidably armed speeders¹, capable of destroying AATs. Let alone their fighter craft. They'll manage to blast a few feral ork warbands, no problem. Then they'll work out what's going on and sterilise the infested areas.

¹ Much like Alderann, it's sometimes gratifying to note that even SW's pacifists have some guns.

Would the Orks be not able to get off-planet? :? I thought they can build huge starships. And WH40K starships are roughly on the order of SW ships?

They might be able to, if they can get the materials & equipment for it. On the plus side, Naboo's troops are pretty lightly equipped by SW standards. On the downside, if they do get serious about wiping out orks, they almost certainly can.

They might just decide it's some hostile species and leave it at that, fortifying their cities while the Orks multiply and transform the deep marshes' ecosystem. If the Orks overrun at least one major city with technology, or a military installation (there's plenty of them near waterways as shown in "Battle for Naboo"), they'll have access to shipbuilding materials and equipment, as well as materiel for their armor things.

They will first try and pick fights with the locals, and try to enslave them as a labour force (or kill them for kicks) before even thinking of other worlds. That's how the Old Ones programmed 'em.

Orks cut off from the mainstream of ork culture are typically knocked back to what are known as Feral Orks. Presumably they 'rediscover' their technology in time, when sufficient numbers to support the experiments of Mekboys exist, but first (assuming the first set of Orks are wiped out at some point) they'll be spending their time picking fights with the Naboo and Gungans when they have no capacity to make guns.
