Replicators vs. the Empire
The new-and-improved Replicators discover a dimensional hole and appear on a Star Destroyer. The infection soon begins...
Will they take over the ISD and continue?
Will they take over the ISD and die from there?
Or will they die before they take over that ISD?
REMEMBER, energy weapons barely affect the Replicators, and the humanoid ones are impervious to projectile weapons rather than the bug ones. The same number of humanoid Reps from Unnatural Selection are there, no more no less. Also, Reps can modify tech to be MUCH better than the originals (ergo Small Victories).

Hmmmm, well this is tough. The replicators would probably take the ISD. Its doubtful that the Imps have projectile guns onboard, and their armor will be uselss against a replicators....replicator....
So the replicators score an ISD. They can upgrade it a SHITLOAD in a really short period of time, so when it find an enemy ship (say another ISD), that ship is dead, or alternativley, the replicators may try to assimilate it. But this could be a time consuming process, allowing Imperial reinfocements to arrive. Attacking it would also alert the Empire. This where they've got to haul ass. The Imps are going to be onto this "rouge ISD" so they are going to have to have a REALLY badass ship (maybe two, depending on what they did with the first one). It all depends on fleet size form here....
OR alternativley, the replicators use their souped up FTL drives to go hit-and run on enemy ships, slowly gaining a little by little, before the Imps arrive. They might even be able to kill planetary shields by now...Either way it depend on desicive action. Still catch 'em in a gravity well and hit 'em with everything you've got...
Should the Imps ignore the threat for too long, their dead. But if they act immediatley the threat can be negated. I'm half and half on this one.

You have a point, if the Empire could react quickly enough and could send in enough reinforcements then they could destroy the commandeered ships.
However, we're talking about intelligent beings who obviously don't suffer in space... What's to stop them attempting to take the reinforcement craft during the battle?
It's a long shot, and it would take some nifty tactics and planning on the part of the replicators but I do believe they'd take this one.

The Empire better get on things quick, or they've got a shitload of trouble on their hands.

I don' think even energy resitant replicators could stand up to KT level laser cannons, so bording replicators suffer some problems. Anyways, they would first have to down the shield. That won't be too difficult with their superior craft, however. In the end it would probably come down to a captain being ordered to scuttle an infested craft.Embracer Of Darkness wrote:However, we're talking about intelligent beings who obviously don't suffer in space... Well the Cators haven't exaclty been known for nifty tactics per se. They are more like what the Borg were mean to be in the beggining. They want the tech. They seem pretty single-minded in their quest for it, and have fallen into simple traps because it, like when the O'Neil was scuttled to destroyed the Cator-owned ship en route to the Asgard homeworld. It's a long shot, and it would take some nifty tactics and planning on the part of the replicators but I do believe they'd take this one.
Still, I'm still 50/50. Its a tough one to call, seeing as you can only judge the Cators by the tech you give them. I shall ponder this....and get back to ya...

POKE!!!!!!
A replicator is from a show called Stargate SG-1. They appear to be metal spiders. They can intake ANY (metallic) substance and create new replicators, as it is there primary function to increase their numbers. they arre immune to peronal level energy weapons, but projectiles will kill them. They can usually handle the crew of a ship too. Once they've done that they can upgrade said ship dozens of times beyond their normal operating peramiters.
So you see, they've got superships, and an army of drones ready to create more. Its a tough scenario here.

This is a very good point but could an Empire vessel successfully shoot-down targets so small, or in as high a number as the Replicators may be in as they're flying from ship to ship?Darth Garden Gnome wrote:I don' think even energy resitant replicators could stand up to KT level laser cannons, so bording replicators suffer some problems

When Sektor31 opened up with "new and improved" I'm assuming he was talking post-eating-Asguard vessel, so they'll be pretty shit hot and would get better (depending on wether Empire building materals are better than Asguard or not )
Since this is the new one, they also have human looking replicators that have the ability to read people's minds by jamming their hands into their heads.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:*arms RPP-Rocket Propelled Poke, and slings over shoulder*

As for replicators vs. the Empire, I'm think if the replicators are allowed to spread, given the Empire doing nothing, they have a good shot at taking over. However, if it is only a couple of ships, the Empire would probably just take them out without really worrying about collateral damage.
Time is going to be the big factor here.

Hmmm, good point also. I suppose they won't exactly taking shuttles and they are little guys. But a solution all the same. Launch proton torpedo. Detonate into Cator formation. Anywho, they only appear on the SD, but their experience with POSSIBLY similar technology may aide them in upgrading the ship.
Again it really comes down to "how fast can the Empire react?" The sooner, naturally the better. Because of the upgraded hyperdirve the Cators will no doubt bestow in the captured SD, it gives them a lot more time before the Empire could send gravity wells up....Anybody know how long you'd think it would take?

I'm not familiar with the Replicators, but are you sure they could improve SW tech that completely? From what I've seen of StarGate the technology isn't all that spectacular, so just because the Replicators can really improve THAT technology does not prove they can modify the much more advanced SW tech.

Fine, they'll use some other type of bomb, like the ones the TIE Bombers used on the asteroid in TESB. I'm sure they have some area effect missles on board. Maybe like the diamond boron missles, for example.Howedar wrote:Since SW missiles are directed weapons, how would they do for area effect?

I think where running into the same Trekkies Borg mentality "if they can absorb the energy of weapons which char human flesh, they can do the same to ones which blast craters in steel." The Replicator might absorb E-11 fire, But T-21 or E-WEB? I doubt it, and the blast from the bolts ripping apart the deck might be enough to stop them smaller ones,

Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who did not.
The Replicators will shred the Empire. Energy weapons (except for extremely powerful ones) will be useless against replicators. The new nanite androids are seemingly invicible against everything. They can take over a ship in a relatively quick amount of time. Once they have the ISD they will increase its firepower, shields, and speed by factors of insane amounts. A single ISD would be able to take on an Eclipse single handidly once the Replicators have control. If the Replicators take a planet, they will have access to resources to continue building their own ships. The Empire is effectively dead.

I don't see why they should be able to do so, it's not a magical power.
Clearly the reason they could do so on Asgard vessels and such was because they had knowledge they didn't, like more effective power systems and such, we do not know wheter the power systems on an ISD is more effective than what the replicators have.

Given enough energy, any defense will fall. The notion of some magic-tech which is immune to any kind of energy weapon is stupid.

Technology is not linear. Just because tech A can be improved by 1000% does not mean I can improve tech B by 1000%.
Also I have never once seen in SG-1 a hand weapon that was as powerful or operated under the same principles as a SW blaster. Your arguement is the same weak arguement put forward by the Borg fanatics. Replicators are only as tough as the material they build themselves out of. Since we have all generally seen blasters blow holes in the walls in places like the Deathstar I doubt the replicators will be blaster immune if they are built out of that material.
Want to know what will most likely happen?
Simple Replicators get on ship, they prove vulnerable to heavy fire but their small size allows them to reproduce faster than they can be destroyed. Eventually the Captain of the ISD realizes he is fighting a losing battle and self destructs the ship. No more Replicator problem.
I doubt they are immune to the ship their on which they use to get about is immune though... it's simple, The empire realises the threat after the first isd goes down, we shall assume the Captain informed the empire via holonet and the empire puts together a battle group consisting of one ssd and it's attendant support vessels...which also includes an interdictor...they can upgrade it all they like....they aren't going anywhereAlyeska wrote:The Replicators will shred the Empire. Indeed. However Replicators will be effectively invulnerable to infantry level energy weapons. And it doesn't mater if they are plasma or not. SG1 has the Staff Weapon which has a clear KE element to it, but after a handful of shots they are no longer affected. Pure KE weapons are much more effective, but typically Replicators swarm a little to fast.Darth Wong wrote:*sniff sniff* I smell a "no limit" fallacy.

As to the ships. No, they don't make them invincible. They do however make them orders of magnitude more powerful then they were originally.
