Other Ships in BSG

OK in the Series Battlestar Galactica we only saw the Battlestars as the main fighting ships of the Colonials.Was there ever any reason given why they didnt have escorts??IE Destroyers and Frigates???

All I eremeber seeing in the Pilot and movie are the Battlestars where are there escorts? other than the Vypers?

They had some sort of cruiser escort as far as I know. I can't remember their names or stats offhand.

Here it is: Tiger-Class destroyer

It actually seems to be a cruiser rather than a destroyer but it certainly fits the role of escort nicely.

In the show we never see or hear of any type of escort or battleship/cruiser type of Colonial vessel, only the Battlestars and Vipers and assorted shuttles. I always wrote it off to the writers and producers lacking any real knowledge of how any type of Navy, wether it be wet Navy or Space would be organized and constructed.
