I wasn't familiar with the name so I checked him out on IMDB, hasn't done alot as a director. I've only seen the Rundown. Thoughts?

Are they remaking the movie... or I should say, are they making a new movie based on the book to restart the "franchise"?

I'd imagine its a new interpretation, though the article is light on details.

Cool. Maybe this time they'll get it closer-to-right (movie adaptations never are). Hopefully they'll know to not fuck with the music.

The Scifi miniseries was okay, and I really liked Children of Dune. WHy re-make it?

The movie was wacky and cool, and the miniseries had it's flaws but covered just about everything well.
I simply can't see the need to remake it :?

Is Dune honestly this popular? Only people caring are now those either praying to their Herbert-God or people who are sucking on KJA/Brian's tits.

I mean the Sci-Fi thing got a couple things down better then the movie, but the sets, costumes, music and story changes were utter shit. Just let it remain as a book and let it end.

I loved the Lynch version, thank you very much, and it was a hundred times better than those ridiculously crappy miniseries productions. No, it wasn't true to Dune, but it made a visually impressive movie that at least caught the grandeur of the original. The music was excellent (it's one of my favourite soundtracks of all time) and, really, who couldn't be pleased at watching Sting get knifed?

The other great aspects were,

1. The Emperor actually looks like an Emperor in the Lynch movie, and acts like one. In the miniseries he looks like some random loser in weird clothes.

2. The Duke was absolutely perfect in the Lynch Dune, very believable coming from Prochnow. Yeah, Paul wasn't well-cast, but he was the young hero and this was the 80's, that's to be expected.

3. Irulan was a cool, disciplined princess, who accepted her fate with equanimity and who coldly recited histories exactly as she did in the books, instead of being a whiny little bitch in the miniseries.

4. Chani was exceptionally attractive in the Lynch Dune. Especially with the way they did the Blue-on-Blue eyes for it. Every time I watch the film, I wish I had eyes like that myself.

5. The visuals were impressive, left you with the feel you were actually in the desert, and mimiced, particularly in dealing with the sandworms, the feel that you were actually in Dune.

So, as a visual and audio extravaganza, Lynch's Dune is really one of my favourite sci-fi films.

Hmmm, Peter Berg, eh?

He's struck me as being reasonably bright in interviews, and he's a decent actor, but there isn't even a script yet...we'll have to see about this.

I hated the Lynch film intensely, until my hopes for the miniseries were crashed on the rocks of Irulan fucking Feyd-Rautha, among other abuses heaped on the source material..."Frank Herbert's Dune" my ass.

I don't see the point of another movie.
I loved the Lynch version, and after the massacre that was the mini-series, I am afraid what they might do to the book next...
