Very good start, but the ending was... I dunno, sort of disappointing in a way. Although I still enjoyed the episode as a whole. The Ood are properly creepy.

I agree with the above. A good solid start, but lacking near the end. Nice to see the Ood's history explained and I admit, I half expected the Devil to be chained up there too (same planet from "The Impossible Planet" by 200 years later or something, like LV-426 being revisited in Aliens).

The Ood Sigma's comments at the end were ominous.

I'm not sure, in any case I wrote that before the crane incident.
If it was the same guy then it makes sense. Even if he was an over the top evil guy.

Not the strongest episode but by no means bad either. Voted a middling three. I didn't see any Rose/Shadow Proclamation references either. The Ood brain telepathy thing seems very implausible to me but the episode had some fun points, like the gaint claw sequence with the psychopathic chief guard.

Donna seems a little bi-polar though. It's good that they made her ashamed of future humans but she leapt from "OMG! I want to go home." to "no I don't." without much to influence her in between.

Martha's back next week. and all though I quite liked her, that preview did not over inspire me with confidence.

It was. Those people suffer the prisoner's dilemma quite hard. Clearly an unstable guy.

I find it neat that the glowing eyes and electrical shock are actually some kind of biological ability, rather than a manifestation of satanic power.

Piss Poor episode imho, can't think of anything good about it. I hope that closing line from the Ood means Tennant's doc is going to die soon. Lots of cringe inducing moments this week. And Martha is back next week, lucky us. Getting bored of all these humans thousands of years in the future who you wouldn't know were in the future if it wasn't for being told. Same clothes, same weapons, same attitude, same apparent tech level blah blah- wish they'd make a bit of effort to make people a bit more interesting.

Half decent I'd say, personal taste. I enjoyed quite a lot of it, found quite a lot of it cliched, and the ending I found a bit erm... lacking I suppose. And cliched. Even the reference to the Doctor's song ending, with the old Ecclestone Doctor's Theme playing briefly, I found a bit crowbarred and out of place.

I'm sure they could have probably gained more time to dwell on these sorts of things if they didn't spend quite so long emphasising how evil one guy is and shaved a few minutes off here and there by cutting down on contrasting the opulent party with the slavery. We get it, it's ok, to be honest, you didn't even have to make the humans evil to still have the same story - they could have been genuinely believing they were doing the Ood a favour. I'd have rather had a bit more time spent on the important plot points, frankly.

3/5 I think for me, not awful, but not amazing.

Well, all telepathy's quite implausible. Of course, for all we know, the Sensorties could have engineered or uplifted them in the 1,400 year gap between serials.

Aside from seeing that 'wait, travelling the universe with the Doctor allows me to change things' of course. It's not just a parade of horrors.

I'm sure it isn't the same actor, nor would it make sense to be the character since the captain had no animosity towards the Ood and even went so far to list every single one of them as dead with honours in his final log entry.

Not that great an episode probably a 2-3.

The thing that hit me the most was how un-nessecery the doctor was. If he hadn't turned up everything would have gone the same. The only actions he took was to turn off the field around the Mega Brain and disarm the explosives, both of which could have been done by Ood Sigma. Not sure why the Ood were praising them at the end it should be the poor dead scientist they were talking about.

Suspension of belief wise, I cant believe a species that have a secondary brain they have to hold in there hand, its just to vunerable and you loose an apendage all the time. Also the happy ending, all the Ood come home there must be billions of them if there important to an empire that covers three galaxies, the planet probably cant sport them any more.

I liked Donna in this beleivable that she doesn't love all the things that occur and doesn't like to be reminded of her hipocracy also that her first reaction to an ice planet is I better get a coat.

A giant brain though.. are the Ood born from it or what? How does that even work?
Also when I saw the brain I half expected for there to be a giant eye on it and for a chick in power armour to jump in and start shooting at it.

Science... and DW. Sorry, does not compute. I can't even begin to list the number of sci-fi shows that have aliens with horribly retarded/implausible biology to go with the physics. DW is soft, so expect the Ood to not be something you can rationalise all that well.

They're not. They talked about hundreds of thousands. One company's hardly the vast empire now is it? Sure, they got the contract for the dig in impossible planet, but that doesn't mean there's oodles of ood (couldn't resist). The only thing suggesting that was a comment that the guy couldn't believe Rose had never seen one before; presumably he just came from somewhere they were particularly common.
