40K Horus Rising

Apologies if this book has been raised before. I did do a search but everything came back Fan Fics.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone has read this book (it's the first in a series called The Horus Heresy I believe).

I like it so far as it's before they believe in such things as Chaos Gods etc. I'm fairly new to 40K so was wondering if there are any books based in a time before this one? This one is based during the great crusade but gives little in the way of details of before this period.

I don't think so. The Horus Heresy series are pretty much the only 40k books that don't take place in the 41st millennium. Details of stuff that happened in the 10000 years after Horus Heresy are scarce enough, and stuff about the times before Horus Heresy are just rare one liners in the game rulebooks and such.

Do a seach for Horus Heresy or the various book titles and you should get a few threads.

Descent of Angels technically takes place before Horus Rising, but not by much in the grand scheme of things. There are no books basedi n the time before the Great Crusade.

OK thanks then although I've read a couple of other books I think it's a great place to start. I find it more interesting when the Marines encounter daemons or whatever and show wonder, doubt or disbelief etc. Rather than just Meh, daemon, kill it, next.

I think the series may also give me a good grounding on the history.

I really think it'd be a great universe for a movie!
