Ignorance at Tigerclaws

There's a couple of crossfires going on over there which could use someone knowledgeable about Star Wars.

Clash of the Titans
Super Star Destroyer vs Warlock

Have fun and be nice.

Silly dimwits who think the SSD can be beaten by a Warlock...

Damn that's sad. I especially like the one who asks if a Vorlon dreadnaught has ever failed to kill anything with one shot. That's like saying that because a 20mm artillery piece has never failed to kill an infantry man with one head shot it could easily sink an American super-carrier.

I also like the bit about the guy who's a noob. And the bit about the Andromeda technology being proven to be very powerful is just moronic.

Finally, maneuverability for an ISD is irrelevent. It neither has to dodge enemy weapons fire, nor does it have to maneuver to target them accurately. Its mere presence allows it to fire at nearly any target to a substantial distance (and it would easily destroy any of these ships with even a few shots). And its shields and armor are easily sufficient to withstand fire from any of the other ships. How can any other ship win? The runners up would merely be the ones that the SSD didn't hit first, or the ones that managed to last the longest (ie. two shots instead of one).

Be wary of the rabid Fivers; they are the al-Qaeda of the online sci-fi community.

damm idiots, it seems most of the rational debators have fled the boards there, both this and the tech board at Tigerclaw is now mainly dominated by rabid fivers.

Ossus congralutions on your promotion to the jedi council, hopefully I make padawn learner soon.

Part of the reason so many rational debators fled was because the moderators are all rabid fivers. One of them stated in a scenario that a battle between a Sharlin and an ISD would make a kick-ass battle! Well, it would if you consider a one-shot kill for the ISD to be a kick-ass battle. And the poll to see which would win was virtually even!

Thanks for the congratulations, and good luck.

I haven't seen Kang or koloth since I left, those were among the best debators I have ever seen, I used to spend most of my time there till the rabid fivers took over, captin Kruger here is another refugee from that board as well.

I don't get that at all. I love B5. I think it is the best Sci-fi TV series ever (far better than ST), but I would not think for a second that a Warlock could defeat an SSD. I don't think that the entire ISA could defeat an SSD. The fact is, B5 is a great show, but that does not mean that its weapons are as powerful, or its ships as good as the ones in SW.

I am actually disturbed that any B5 fan could be so mistaken as those people. B5 is a wonderful show, and I find it unnecessary to claim that their technology is as powerful as that in SW. Why are they so adamant about it.

Incidentally, I think that is also the website I was looking at when someone had a Thirdpsace ship against an ISD and someone else was saying that because a Thirdspace ship could take a Sharlin the ISD was "decidedly screwed and badly." Not only was their grammar atrocious, but their arguments were ridiculously flawed.

I agree, a Warlock has no chance to defeat a SSD, eventhough i really like B5, i won't be one to put my fingers in my ears and yell really loud lalalalalalalalalala to not take into account that SW tech is more powerful than that fitted on a Warlock. While the Warlock looks awesome IMO, it has NO chance in HELL to defeat a SSD.

I agree, but these rabid fivers are just like rabid trekkies, I still remenber when I was so stupid I actually thought that a omega-class destoryer can beat a ISD, or a starfury can beat a Tie fighter, thankfully I am past that phase. no amount of reason could really convince me, it was a year without any sci-fi to mellow me out.

Actually, a Warlock could destroy a SSD, one without shields, or crew, or power, and it would take at least a couple of months of constant firing, and in a straight fight it would still be destroyed by the SSD's engine backwash, while attacking from the front.

I recall someone saying that with a tactical genius and a huge amount of luck, the warlock can last a whole five minutes.

The problem though, is that a Warlock seems comparable in most respects to a Sharlin class cruiser in terms of its abilities. Even an SSD's point defense guns could destroy a Sharlin in a single shot (ref. ItB). A Warlock likely could not last for five minutes once it was within the SSD's firing range, but that is a more accurate assessment of how the battle COULD go with a good tactician. The Warlock could not hope to defeat the SSD.

The scary thing is that they're paying so they can post there. That board that they use requires subscription fees!

Really? When I tried to register (just so I could tell them that the SSD was at least a few dozen orders of magnitude more powerful than a Warlock), it took me to this screen where it said that I would have to give them some money every month in order to get the service. Is there a way around that? Or was I misreading something?
