For one night only: Red Dwarf returns for a new episode.

Post by Dartzap »

hints at such a thing

This here, however, somewhat does say it
This is unconfirmed by any media source at the moment, but sources who went to the KCTS 9 Red Dwarf 20th Anniversary show said that Robert Llewelyn was there, and he mentioned this news. It was built up by Robert himself in the promo he did for the channel which is on their website.

Quote from the 'source', though please don't take it as red (pun not actually intended) until it's confirmed.

If true (which i think it is) exciting stuff, (found on doctorwho online):
At the KTCS9 20th Anniversary evening tonight, Robert announced to a small crowd that a brand new, 1 hour Red Dwarf episode had been commissioned by BBC Worldwide, to be filmed in October 2008.

Robert said it will star the original cast.
He would not divulge the storyline except to say that Doug Naylor was finalizing the script.
The thing which i find interesting is that it says it's being made for BBC Worldwide. Does this mean it might not be shown on BBC1 or 2 ?
The bugger wouldnt say which media source it was though, dammit....

From what I understand, they could never get sufficient funding for a feature film :(

Here's to hoping it's true. While I've had my doubts about a film, this would be an acceptable substitute.

This had better fucking happen.

As for who needs to be in it? Everyone. From s1-8, I want every regular/semi-regular cast member to be in it. And if possible, have Kochanski mk1 and mk2 have some form of existential crisis.

And Queeg must make a cameo.

I bet that's exactly what Richard T. Davies was thinking when he wrote 'Journey's End'. :P What this needs is to be a high quality episode. It doesn't have to be filled with six million little shout-outs to the fans. It also has to happen.

I liked the proposed end to s8 with them crashing Red Dwarf into Earth and causing what was just about a world ending cataclysm due to it.

As long as it has a Rimmer in it (live Rimmer, dead Rimmer, Ace Rimmer, doesn't matter... multiple Rimmers would be even better though), I'll be happy. :D

On a slight tangent I remember when the movie was apparently still a go, there was talk of getting a lot of celebrity cameos like Madonna on it. This wasn't exactly something I wanted to hear as to me, Red Dwarf at its best doesn't need stuff like that.

People wonder why scifi sucks these days, and why it's dominated by fanservice.

Gentlemen, I give you... the modern TV market.

Frankly anyone who can even watch series 7-8 is wierd, but hey. I'm sure this isn't a part of the Red Dwarf pension plan at all. :)

Red Dwarf was great once, but hasn't been consistently funny since series 5, so I'd remain cautious on this one, frankly.

Parts of series 7 and 8 were decent, but were patchy. The main problem I think is that Red Dwarf was once a comedy show with sci-fi elements, later on it tried to be a sci-fi show with comedy elements if that makes sense.
