Vin Diesel: "2 more Riddick sequels"

Post by Kodiak »

link from here
Vin Diesel has said he is planning to make two more Chronicles Of Riddick movies.

The original David Twohy-helmed action adventure was released in 2004.

Speaking about the possibility of two sequels, Diesel told MTV: "The only question is whether we take a page from the Lord Of The Rings guys and try to shoot the two chapters at the same time."

He also claimed that the delayed production on the sequels was down to his and Twohy's desire to find the story rather than lack of studio interest.
I for one am totally stoked. Admittedly, I started w/ Chronicles of Riddick and then went backwards, but I'm glad there's plans for more.

Two more? What is the story going to be (especially when you consider that Riddick effectively claimed the throne of the Necromongers at the end of CoR?)?

He stated back when TCoR was being made that they had two more scripts done (supposedly, literally under lock and key), and that the first would involve a trip to the Underverse.

I'm guessing Riddick kicks Death/Satan/God in the nuts at some point.

Usurping the Necromonger throne SHOULD be the beginning rather than the end. The implications of that development are bound to be the most interesting thing in the setting so far. The potential of a series wherein the Evil Overlord is the protagonist is both vast and mostly untapped. I personally found both films to be pretty meh but it's not inconceivable that they make something out of this. Something somewhat awesome, even. Consider me cautiously optimistic.

I'm excited by this. Neither of the prior movies were especially awesome, but they were both fun and entertaining in a Warhammerish "There are no good guys here" sort of way. And I too felt that The Chronicles of Riddick begged for a sequel.

Agreed. Neither of the two was a ZOMG movie, but both were solid entertainment as far as I'm concerned. And it was blatantly obvious that Chronicles was "Part One of", and begged for a sequel.
So, I'm pretty happy about this, and hope that Hollywood doesn't fuck it up.

I saw Chronicles and didn't think it was very good, but IMHO the universe it was set in had some potential. I admit that, if the next movie's premise is an expedition to the Underverse, I'd probably see it.

Pitch Black was a great movie. Then they made CoR and now it is tainted. Kinda like the first Matrix film is tainted by the shittiness of its sequels.

Did Vin Diesel writer the script for Pitch Black and CoR? Unless he did or got the writer team, then the movies are bound to be shitty.

David Twohy, was the director on both films and the writer of the second one. Since he's mentioned in connection to the story, it seems obvious that he's going to be the main creative force.

I liked Riddick in the sense that it gave a nice feel for the vastness of a galaxy, and how alone you really are. Twice we've seen how brutal it could be to get stranded on some random planet in the middle of nowhere.

Add that to the exotic (and outrageously improbable) locations, and it was a nice setting for Vin Diesel to be cool.

So count me in for cautiously optimistic.

I'm inclined to agree. Pitch Black was a fun alien monster romp.

CoR was just so bland that all I remember were space Muslims, and wondering how that huge armour clad army would fare against giant magnets.

I personally don't care if a military is terribly unrealistic, as long as it works for the film.

Jaffa are morons, but they make for fun viewing and make neat cannon fodder villains. Harry Potter might very well be shot by some SWAT guy, but I'd rather see him with a wand than a gun of some sort.

In Vin Diesel's dreams. I'd be shocked if these movies were actually made. The Chronicles of Riddick was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, and I literally had to lie down after watching it to recover from the stupidity of it. It also performed badly at the box office, and Vin Diesel isn't exactly the big shit that he was back in the early 2000s. Big budget flops don't get sequels.

My biggest problem with Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick was that they didn't really feel like two parts of the same series. I didn't necessarily dislike Chronicles, but it disappointed me because I would have much rather seen a sequel that felt like it really followed Pitch Black. Had Chronicles not been a sequel to Pitch Black, but had otherwise been close-to-exactly the same movie, I think I'd have probably liked it more.

Riddick became superman between the two movies. I remember Pitch Black where he ambushed the merc and the merc still took him down. He was bad but he was still mortal and still beatable.

The Riddick of CoR would have never been taken by the merc and could have killed him at will with a bootlace.

That being said CoR had a few good moments broken up by huge amounts of sheer wankary.

It actually turned a reasonable profit with DVD sales, and the accompanying game was a critical and commercial hit. (Escape from Butcher's Bay. Awsome game, one of the very, very few excellent move tie in games ever).

I loved CoR personally. Great visual design, great effects, psychedelic plot, and the character of Riddick is cool. Bring on the sequels.

Been wondering whats been going on with this series for the last while, was afraid it had been lost forever to development hell but hopefully they can get a decent story worked out to complete what they started. Pitch Black is the better of the two live action movies, but Chronicles was still entertaining enough and it was nice to see the Riddick universe revealed in a more epic way.

CoR isn't that bad taken on its own but there is a massive tonal shift from Pitch Black thats a bit hard to take.

PB seemed almost hard. Where as CoR has the whole space fantasy thing. With everyone wearing plate mail and carrying bladed weapons as their primary side arms. They did have laser guns but only the commanders seemed to both to use them.
