Furies from ST: Invasion vs...

Post by Bastard »

The Furies from the ST novel series Invasion vs:

SW

B5

WH40K

I AM AWARE THAT NOVELS ARE NON CANON YOU FOOL. I'm aware that therefore these books cannot influence Trek vs debates in general. However I'm looking at them anyway out of interest.

So what do you think?

No.

Discuss this on a case by case basis.

Bastard, perhaps you'd care to provide some details on the furies?

their capabilities made them juggernauts in TOS, but I don't think they destroyed a single capital ship in TNG. The ship designs used in every book seemed to change, with a bad-ass dreadnought the first time, standard capships for next gen, and piddling little ships to match voyager, followed by 200 km or longer leviathans that turned out to have no resistance to their own heavy weaponry when the author pulled the standard "trick their weapons into hitting themselves" copout. Weapons wise the only real advantage they have is a terror beam, that was of course stopped by Star Trek "Recalibration", and might not get through Star Wars or 40K shields in the first place. B5 is screwed, the other two powers would take them out.
Are we talking about the full planet invasion that was to happen in voyager, or their strength at the height of their powers?

If I recall correctly, the Furies had millions of vessels at the height of their power. However, a more interesting fight would be a battle against the Unclean, the parasitic enemies of the Furies. They were resistant to phaser fire and could bounce of shielding unharmed (indeed, they would overwhelm shields by basically adopting the 'ram them till they give up' strategy). They were capable of survival in space or in atmosphere, and could produce an acid that would burn through the hulls of starships.
