Fallout3 Force Add: Spoilers Ahoy!
By act of G.W., A portal opens up ashore just beyond Rivet City two weeks before Dad, Dr. Li, etc set off for Project Purity. This portal opens up to a near future parallel Earth, almost exactly like our own, in the same position in Washington D.C. as near Rivet City. The future Earth is basically Tom Clancy Earth and alongside the first science teams sent from TCEarth the Ghost Recon Ghost team, in addition to a Stryker Brigade (as in real world) .
Lets say that as a part of the plan to reconstruct Fallout America Project Purity must be brought online... So here we are, the Ghosts and a platoon of the Stryker Brigade accompany the scientists to the Jefferson Memorial.
The Ghosts have a drone and three mules, with access to every type weapon from the ghost recon games. The Stryker platoon is armed according to how they are in real life, some more experienced folks will have to fill that in!
Their Mission: Clear project purity of super mutants and stave off the Enclave attack on their location. Can the Ghosts and regular army prevail?

Uh.... Considering that the PC was able to do that on his/her own, and that the PC had no combat experience prior to leaving the Vault, the Ghosts are only going to have an easier time of it, what with all their gear. Seriously; the super-mutants are just fucked. Utterly fucked.
EDIT: Oh, Enclave too? Well, Power armour isn't exactly bullet proof.

The PC is a subspeices of munchkin and can survive utterly inhuman acts.Ryan Thunder wrote:Uh.... In the fluff it is. It is purely gameplay mechanics that you can damage it with handguns.EDIT: Oh, Enclave too? Well, Power armour isn't exactly bullet proof.

Are there novels about fallout or is it just ingame and game manual fluff? I'd like to find some, now that Fallout3 is my new crack!

I don't know if this counts, but in the Citadel you can hear two Brotherhood guys talking and speculating whether or not their weapons can even penetrate Enclave power armor.TheMuffinKing wrote:Xon wrote:The PC is a subspeices of munchkin and can survive utterly inhuman acts.Ryan Thunder wrote:Uh.... Bah. We throw game mechanics out in favour of fluff. I thought that was the generally accepted practice.Stark wrote:Time to start another ridiculous GM vs fluff debate!

For this scenario we can take things in this order: Fluff (diagrams, worded descriptions) then Movies. Until they can simulate all real world interactions on a computer in real time, game mechanics will never be regarded as an accurate depiction of events.
Tihs thread seems like a better set up for some fan-fiction than an actual Vs. Hmmm perhaps I should try amateur typery!

Throw out, no. We take game mechanics as an idea of what might be possible. While Game Mechanics shows normal small arms as capable of harming Powered Armor, the Fluff says that it cannot. Knowing that its rather difficult to build something capable of being invincible to assault rifle fire that can fit a man, I think we can come to the conclusion that an assault rifle can hurt powered armor if it hits the right location with enough fire.Ryan Thunder wrote:Bah. We also know that according to intended fluff the BoS with their legitimate quality armor, not the D.C. ersatz kind, eventually get their ass beat by the New California Republic which does not use power armor and doesn't exactly have scads of turbo plasma rifles either. However, they're still pretty damn resistant to attack, so the only think they really have going for them are the Strykers and their superior fighting ability. I think the mutants are pretty much fucked, but the Enclave will cause problems. Not the power armored soldiers as much as the Vertibird support. I'm not sure what's on those and what it'll do to a Stryker. I assume the .50 cal will be able to poke some holes in the Vertibird but I'm not positive. If it can't, then the ghosts have an issue. If it can, the Vertibird probably gets confused by the sight of armored units on the ground, fires on a soldier, and then gets blown to shit and crashes. The few soldiers that land are really not a huge issue to the IFV's.
