Interceptor Batteries vs Tie Fighters

B5 interceptor batteries (the station, yea sure not just the station, all the b5 races in general) how would their interceptor batteries do vs tie fighters doing strafing runs,

Errr... hmm don't know enough about B5 to say but I do understand thier Fighters are realy slow and not very manvurable?(Could be mistaken, I know the Least about B5 of any Sci-Fi, Heck I know more about the Culture yet I've never read about about them meanwhile I seen 5 epsiodes of b5 soo..)

Any B5 fighter would be really slow and not very manuverable compared to a TIE fighter. The worst an interceptor could do would be to mess-up the paint job on the TIE fighter.

They could not hope to be effective. TIE fighters are both faster and more maneuverable than anything in B5, and their ships appear to be more resilient than the ships the interceptors have used in the past.

By all acounts they are a hair faster than X-Wings and Specficly built for insanely hard turns and X-Wings well remeber ANH? They slow down for fighting but are pretty fast in Transit(Remeber how quick they Circuled the Planet? The DS was on the other side when they launched and less than 3 mins elapsed inbetween launch and the first attack) That and the DS was going pretty slow due to its huge mass if it did not it kinda smack into the moon rather than shoot it

I'm not much of a fan of B5 but I don't recall a single instance of a Tie maneuvering like a Starfury….

You don't eh? Maybe you should watch AHN (Battle of Yavin), TESB (asteroid chase), and ROTJ (Battle of Endor) again. Those TIEs are kickin and swervin and hoppin all over the place.

What? TIE's clearly exceed Starfurys in acceleration (by a lot), and are comparable in turning radius. They exceed the Starfury's maneuverability while banking, and have far better roll rates than the Starfury. TIE fighters would be virtually immune to starfury fire (whose main cannons are only 40 megawatts), and their firepower (in the kiloton range) would vaporize starfuries in only a few hits.

Remember, also, that we have not seen a Minbari Nial class fighter "maneuver" like a starfury has, but we also know that the Nial kicked the starfury's ass during the war.

Further, the fact that you are not much of a B5 fan is irrelevent to your statement. TIE's are featured in Star Wars, not B5. If you are a SW fan, you would have recognized that TIE performance exceeds starfury performance in almost all categories.

Not to mention all the cases of TIE's only being damaged, often insignificantly by hits from kiloton level weapons in most every novel. They seem to require solid hits on the cockpit ball to be killed.

And IIRC one of the X-Wing novels has the material used for the fighter's windows shrugging off hits from blaster rifles when being used for cover in a firefight.

Also remember that TIE fighters can withstand atmospheric re-entry, and that they can fly more than 1000 kph in a standard atmosphere in level flight, even though their aerodynamics are terrible. TIEs are VERY sturdy craft.
