V (2009)

Post by Nephtys »

So, I wanted to see the reimagining of 'V', and managed to catch it on Hulu. I thought the old show was miniseries was excellent, if somewhat dated due to the cheesy heavy-handed nazi allegories and laser blasts. I watched the new one, and it seems... surprisingly good. I don't think it caught that much press, so I wanted to see if anyone here actually saw it.

Has anyone else seen this? It's only got 4 episodes apparently so far, but I thought they've been of surprisingly good quality and tension. Even if a lot of the 'mysteries' of the whole alien plan is given away boldfaced in the pilot. I'm not sure where people are somehow getting that it's a criticism of the Obama Administration. I'm thinking of it more like Battlestar Galactica, in reverse. Hopefully, since the plan is so damned transparent right now, it won't require freaking angels to resolve.

Don't get too attatched to the show. I hear they've already decided to cancel it.

Figured as much! It looked like one of 'those' shows. Especially with the bizzare decision to split the series after only 4 episodes.

It has potential, but I thought the pilot was way over the top and rushed.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Personally I preferred Earth Final Conflict approach to this sort of situation.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Turning the aliens into vampires that feed on human life-energy and have a secret team dedicated to killing them?

I was a huge fan of the original show and I was delighted to see that it was being re-imagined. The 4 episodes I've saw so far have been excellent, they have a good cast and the setting is great. There has been a great hook with every episode but I am a little disappointed the V's haven't pulled out the laser guns yet. The new Motherships look awesome.

Evil Murderous Laser Guns would ruin the 'zomg, it is modern' part of the show though. Because Laser guns are pretty much retro camp these days. Those hunter-seeker drones are not however, and are pretty scary. Evil Murderous UAVs are the new thing, haven't you heard? :)

I do like the cast. They all seem reasonably natural for being the first few episodes, and although THE PLAN is pretty damned transparent, it's still kinda fun waiting on the details.

Heh, not really though. Since their UAV's have worse cameras than the other lapel cameras they're using.

The show feels weirdly dumb. Like it's trying to be this great statement on modern times, but is just kinda moronic.
