R Rated 'Predators' trailer
Looks like a return to form following the snore fest of AvP movies we've endured in recent years;

Looks pretty cool, but did they just have someone surviving a freefal drop? o_O

Okay, that shot of the planets above really made my head hurt. Wouldn't that be extremely impossible without some nasty gravitational effects?

Pfft...details. And also since we have no idea of anything other then Predators, earth like area, and hunting? The presumption that that place is natural is in contention .Molyneux wrote:Okay, that shot of the planets above really made my head hurt. Still enjoyable preview.

In other news, Adrien Brody can play an action hero it seems. Pretty awesome. Maybe this will do for the Pred series what Aliens did for Alien, though really, they were always action films, while Alien was a horror just waiting to have an action film made. I guess this is all about scale and turning the tables around (we get to see local wildlife the Yautja probably hunt as kiddies with their pop).
Re: R Rated 'Predators' trailer
Big enough deal to me that it snapped me out of the trailer. Still, I hope that this is good, though to be honest I hate "entire cast dies off one by one" movies on principle.Ford Prefect wrote:Who cares? That's your problem, not the film's, you dig me? It's not asking you to assume that it's a plausible representation of astrophysical phenomenon. It just has to be a tense action thriller.Molyneux wrote:Big enough deal to me that it snapped me out of the trailer.

Even when the point of the movie is that the cast is being hunted one by one?Molyneux wrote:Big enough deal to me that it snapped me out of the trailer. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

He's pretty versatile. I didn't think I would buy him as a PI in Hollywoodland, but he was completely convincing.Admiral Valdemar wrote: In other news, Adrien Brody can play an action hero it seems. So what you think of the original Predator? It doesn't make much attempt to have most of its characters persevere either...Molyneux wrote:

The original movie was a well-made action movie, but I much preferred the earlier parts of it before all the named characters started dying off. It's been a few years since I saw it, so correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the first third of the movie or so about them taking on the South American rebels with the Predator hanging around the edges?Havok wrote:Even when the point of the movie is that the cast is being hunted one by one?
I'll have to wait and see what I think of this, but in general I dislike it when a vast majority of the named characters die. It wastes the effort put into giving them characterization, especially if it's not handled well. (See nearly every damn horror film ever, except for the really good ones.)

wow that was a lot of red dots on that guys' head, neck, arms and chest towards the end there.
Even though I would rather see a movie with the preds going up against a unit of colonial marines.

Re: R Rated 'Predators' trailer
I very much doubt that will be visible in the film, looks more like some of these are stills taken during production than caps.

Interesting. By my count from trailer stills we've got at least 4 different preds in this.

Loved the shot of the spaced out sky. Wonder if there are any high-res stills of that shot, would make for a great wallpaper.

Re: R Rated 'Predators' trailer
The Predators are a society that has been space-faring (with FTL ability) for the last 6000 or so years. Is it that hard to imagine that they dont have some sort of anti-grav projector in place specifically so they can fuck with their prey by dropping them from near orbit to the ground?Molyneux wrote:Big enough deal to me that it snapped me out of the trailer. Re: R Rated 'Predators' trailer
I refuse to get excited about this movie on principle. I got burned by AvP.
If it's good, I'm glad, but I'm not holding out any hope, really.

A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.
At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.
The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'
'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Re: R Rated 'Predators' trailer
I figure the moon they're on is almost certainly tidally locked to the gas giant. The tidal forces, though massive, would be pretty much constant and therefore have no catastrophic effects (i.e. no massive land and sea tides as the planet rotates, the land and sea is just constantly higher on the side facing the gas giant). The presence of other large moons may create tidal heating effects leading to serious volcanism though.Molyneux wrote:Okay, that shot of the planets above really made my head hurt. Re: R Rated 'Predators' trailer
The characters all have Predator-tech parachutes on, then they are dumped from high up. I say Predator-tech... one of them fails to open, and an unnamed character is dead at the start of the movie (I should say script). The shot of Brody as he lands is after he disengages from his 'chute.
Oh, and according to the confirmed script Spoiler
