Tyranid Hive Mind Jacking... In Soviet Russia Version (rar)

Post by SapphireFox »

I had an odd thought after reading the Tyranid Codex that eventually poked me into writing this.

You the reader are walking along normally and then you find yourself dumped unto an Imperial world under attack by the Tyranids. Before you can fully recover your wits you are attacked by a Tyranid Genestealer. Being superior in natural strength and speed the stealer quickly subdues you and proceeds to infect you however unlike the normal version something is wrong with the implant. Instead you get the "In Soviet Russia Version" instead of the hive mind jacking you... YOU JACK HIVE MIND!!!

A strange genetic hiccup causes the implant to work in reverse in the worst possible way for the Tyranids. The normal version would jack your mind into being subsumed into a smaller genestealer brood mind. However what you get causes you to connect to the main Tyranid hive mind in a way that overwrites part of the hive mind with your consciousness and memories. Any normal human that connected with the hive mind would typically force the human into insanity. However because of the overwrite you manage to retain a semblance of sanity. Your mind has mixed slightly with the main Tyranid consciousness leaving you with the collective knowledge of the Tyranids and control over the ones your mind has spread to.

Your mind spreads far through the hive however you do not manage to infect all of the Tyranid on the planet. Sensing a danger unlike any other they have experienced before the main hive mind decides to destroy any and all of your mind infected Tyranids including you!

Realizing the danger of remaining on this world any longer you start a running battle to get to the Tyranid ships under your command. After you get as many of your nids on your bio-ships as possible you try to escape the overwhelming numbers of main hive Tyranids in orbit. Thankfully for you the recent arrival of the Imperial navy attacking the nids in orbit causes enough havoc in the main hive fleet to allow some of your bio-ships to escape.

You manage to lead them on a wild goose chase throughout the system but the main hive is relentless. They doggedly pursue you picking off ship after ship. After you think that you can't run much further what possibly looks like salvation appears. A wormhole tears itself into space not far off you don't know where it leads but anywhere is better then being killed here. Your small fleet drives itself through as fast as they can taking fire all the way in.

When you awaken you realize that your ships are no longer being attacked. The position of the stars is different and you don't know where you are. After taking stock of the situation you have the following forces at your command.

Your Hive ship with a Norn-Queen on board completely subservient to your will.

64 Kraken of various types

11 Void Fiends

23 Wardrones protecting your Hive Ship

12 Vanguard Droneships

6 Narvhal

and approximately 65,000 Tyranids of various breeds including over two dozen bio-titans.

Now you must explore your new surroundings and find out where you are and what do to do afterwords.

Your challenge is what do you do if you and your 'Nids found yourself in the following places.

1. Star Wars universe Clone wars era in the outer-rim (likely being discovered by Dooku's forces or Obi-wan and Anikin's fleet)

2. Star Trek universe Late TNG era near the Romulan Neutral Zone. (likely running into the Enterprise-D or the Romulans possibly both)

3. Haloverse during the Battle of Onyx (likely turning a three way into a four way battle)
4. Our Universe at Earth right after you left it.

5. You didn't escape the Warhammer universe after all instead you find yourself out near the Tau-Imperial border. (as you hear the the laughter of the chaos gods mocking you for believing you escaped)

6.If you want something that I haven't yet mentioned this space is for a universe and time of your choice.
You will see the tears of time.

Question: Does my genetic abnormality prevent the Norn Queen from using my DNA to spawn wave after wave of...me? Because I can think of some major possibilities if this is so.

Other than that, I would probably lay low and communicate diplomatically in any of the scenarios outside of 40k.

1. Just stay out of the way, maybe absorb a few planets on the rim that have no sapient life forms while researching how to adjust my tyranid brothers and sisters to living in a post-scarcity society. Maybe I might send some genestealers out to get some Jedi DNA for me, too, so long as it won't affect the war.

2. I would warn Starfleet about the Dominion and the Borg Incursion in First Contact. I would contact certain Stafleet scientists (La Forge, that lady scientist he likes, Barclay, etc.) and try to give Starfleet working Narvhal FTL since it's canonically not based on the Warp. I would use the Tyranid fleet to go after the Borg or any other threat that could harm Starfleet and then work on assimilating myself and the Tyranids into the Federation somehow.

3. No idea.

4. Use Narvhals and Tyranid Tyrannoforming to create some habitable worlds not too far from Earth. I would also try to give Tyranid space travel (STL and FTL) to the people of earth and use Tyranid transportation capabilities to help move the less fortunate to the Tyrannoformed/Terraformed worlds when they're ready. I would use Tyranid abilities to revolutionize the fields of health, science and resource management. Tyranid energy sources could help us turn around the ecology of earth. I would use my abilities to create enough wealth for myself to affect the political scene enough to reduce oppression and needless suffering. Or maybe other means...

5. Find a way to convince an inquisitor of what's happened and hand over my DNA so they can figure out how to use it as a weapon.

So essentialy what I would do if for some reason I were to go all Sarah Kerrigan on the nids?

Well that is easy, I would do what any sane man would do. Suffer a nervous brakedown. After recovering I would howerer seek to expoit the possibilities of the situation.

Firstly, I would try and find a way of having the nids somehow make me immortal, or at least as long living and unaging as possible. I think that this would be within the realm of possibility.

After that what I would do depends on the universe.
1. Star Wars universe Clone wars era in the outer-rim (likely being discovered by Dooku's forces or Obi-wan and Anikin's fleet)
Avoid both sides at all costs. There is nothing to be gained from getting drawn into a pan galactic conflict for no reason.
Instead I would go to the outer edges of the galaxy where the sparsely populated fringe worlds that no one really cares about are.

I would consume these worlds and start building up my fleet.
While the war rages around me I would seek out isolated convoys, fringe worlds and other unprotected targets with bio mass and consume them as well.

Once I have sufficient bio mass to make a competent fleet I would leave the galaxy and head into open space. Better that than to have to fight the death star. I would probably return after those other bio guys to clean up what is left of the collapsing new republic thou.
2. Star Trek universe Late TNG era near the Romulan Neutral Zone. (likely running into the Enterprise-D or the Romulans possibly both)
Attack some of the minor colonies and species in the region. Seeing how things are in the universe my fleet should be able to easily go in and out of the system before either side knows what hit them.

This would likely drive them into war. If not, I would attack outlaying colonies on all the borders (Klingon, Cardasian etc.) to provoke an armed conflict of massive proportions. Than I would pounce on the unsuspecting planets and eat them up while the fleets are away. This would make me king of the alpha quadrant.
3. Haloverse during the Battle of Onyx (likely turning a three way into a four way battle)
Not familiar with that one so I can't really comment.
4. Our Universe at Earth right after you left it.
OMG, the fun.
I would immediately land in full force on the planet decimating and devouring everything in my path. The only thing I would spare is Japan where I would establish my seat of power surrounding my self with nerdy yet cute girls.

I think I would not even expand beyond that point. No need, I would just live out the rest of my days in luxury surrounded by servants, girls, anime, and an army of bio weapons at my call if anyone gets any ideas.
5. You didn't escape the Warhammer universe after all instead you find yourself out near the Tau-Imperial border. (as you hear the the laughter of the chaos gods mocking you for believing you escaped)

I would try and flee out of the sector and hit some other even more insignificant minor power. Just as long as I am as far away from the IOM as possible. I would leach away at the minor powers, isolated worlds and other such stuff. And always make sure to be large enough to defeat anything I can't evade and evade everything I possibly can.
It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.

You win. There, I have said it.

Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

Actually, the abnormality is not you it is in the genestealer infection but since your DNA is still altered as per norm you might as well consider the alteration yours. As for the cloning there would be nothing preventing it. After all the hive mind IS YOUR MIND, so like all your other 'Nids the clones would be extensions of you.
Bob the Gunslinger wrote: Other than that, I would probably lay low and communicate diplomatically in any of the scenarios outside of 40k.
Worth a shot, tho remember the 'Nids don't have/use radio in any form so any communication with others would have to be face to face. (don't forget that humanoid psychic exposure to the hive mind has usually forced the humanoid into madness)

Just be careful not to set the jedi into a witch/bug hunt in the process. You don't need the exposure if you plan on laying low.

Since you don't use hyperspace for FTL you can avoid the navigation problems in traversing the Unknown Regions so that place would become a perfect hideing spot from the rest of the galaxy.

The feddies would be the least likely to shoot first at you. I will admit trying to mix the squishy tyranid compressed space FTL with the FTL in real space warp drive seems like difficult if possibly blindingly fast combination.

How well would the Tyranids fare against the borg? I mean yes there are quite a few advantages in combat with the borg like excellent melee ability and armored exoskeletons (just try sticking an injection tube into a Carniflex), but some of the the lesser armored examples may get injection tubed. I don't pretend to know if it is possible to assimilate a tyranid but something to consider is the viral type weapons the tyranid already posses. After all a virus could combat the nanoprobes that are in the body.

Beyond that, if one does get assimilated then it would likely become a battle of hive minds for control of the 'nid likely frying the brain of the 'Nid being fought over or worse one hive mind takes over another.

Worth giving it a shot if you can avoid getting IT shot off. Try finding Inquisitor Amberley Vail and Commissar Cain if you can they are probably the most sane people in the imperium.

Well since the hive mind is your consciousness as long as there is a single one of your 'Nids your mind goes on. Technically you don't even need you body anymore so if you clone yourself there will always be an avatar of you as you were. (Assuming you don't take a more conventional tyranid form as your personification)

I see it now a horde of Bio-Ships screaming out of nowhere hitting the vong from the side, consuming both the life and knowledge of the vong.

Umm... you did read how the 'Nid FTL works didn't you?
The Tyranids have to come out of FTL well outside the system because the gravitational interference screws with the Narvhal's delicate grav sensors. The in system transit takes weeks even months so unless you evolve that weakness out of them I don't think you will be doing much of a drive by attack as you think. Otherwise it is a good idea.

1. Stay on the move, devouring biomass on relatively undefended backwater worlds to increase my numbers, maybe stealing some Jedi genes through quick raids. Bide my time until the Vong invade and are defeated and mop up what's left of them and the New Republic.

2. Devour some Federation colonies, then when Picard comes to preach sanctimoniously at me, pretend to be so alien that we didn't realize the humans/other humanoids we were consuming were sentient and offer our sincerest apologies. Concoct a story about how we were a peaceful species until we were attacked by the Borg and were forced to flee our homeworld, sustaining ourselves on biomass and searching for a suitable replacement for our homeworld. Negotiate with the Federation; they give us a world rich in biomass to call our own (preferably located deep within their borders) and allow us to place members of our "species" onboard several of their starships as a cultural exchange program, since we know so little about humanoid life. The idiots would go for it, with their whole "peaceful coexistence, and what a wonderful learning opportunity!" thing. Then we take over the Federation from within, until the point where we can just start openly consuming biomass on every Federation world. Meanwhile, we start infiltrating and taking over starships from various worlds and start border skirmishes; a ship full of suborned Klingons attacking a Romulan outpost, for example, or a hijacked Cardassian ship bombing Ferenginar from orbit. Get a full-blown war going on between all our neighbors, offer secret alliances to each participant (both as the Federation and as the Tyranids) and start taking them over from within as well, again until the point where we can safely begin consuming all biomass. Rinse and repeat for the entire galaxy.

3. Devour biomass. If the Forerunner Sentinels pose a significant threat, proceed to shit self and escape to devour biomass elsewhere. Mock the Gravemind at every opportunity.

4. I'd pretty do what has been said in other posts; enslave the world without consuming too much of it, and terraform other worlds to make them habitable for human life while attempting to transfer technology over to humanity. Proceed to make myself into a living demi-god.

5. Escape to the fringes of Tau space, as far from the Imperium as possible, and attempt something similar to the Star Trek strategy: approach the Tau as potential allies/mercenaries ala the Kroot and then attempt to take over/devour the Tau from within while stealing their technology.

6. I'd invade Known Space just because it'd be hilarious. Also, the Ringworld would provide enormous amounts of biomass to consume.

In all the scenarios I start off by going to dead systems nobody is going to ever look and start growing. Is there a reason I would be unable to create creatures and plants that can convert dead matter into biomass? Consuming a few gas giants worth of materials with nobody knowing I even exist would give me a pretty good head start compared to trying to attack someone right away.

For scenario 4 I declare that anything outside Luna's orbit to be mine but I leave everything within it alone. I'll grow living colonies like the Edenist habitats from the Night's Dawn books and allow some immigration but Earth governments will have no say in how I do anything in my territory.

I'm actually kind of disturbed by how many responders are so gleeful about slaughtering and enslaving their fellow human beings.

In all cases I'd order the Tyranids to kill themselves. No good can come from messing around with Tyranids. In the first four scenarios, I'd try to make provisions for my own survival, but for the fifth scenario, I wouldn't bother. In 40K, being dead is pretty much the best I could hope for.

Not unless you kill yourself near a pariah...

Also, If you have complete control over the Tyranids, how bad can they get?

1. If it is a CIS fleet which discovers me, I run, whether or not I can defeat it. No point in losing anything for minimal biomass gain. If it's a clone fleet which my available forces can defeat, I get every last cell of every last person on every last ship either dead or consumed, and if there were any interesting aliens aboard I may just see if the genetic material is of any use to my tyranid hive. With either fleet I will attempt to capture a hyperdrive equipped vehicle and extract navigational data, and keep the vehicle mostly intact to reverse-engineer later. Afterwords, I will attempt to use the nav data to plot the safest route into the deep core, consuming small worlds or non-civilized but life-bearing worlds along the way. After setting up a base as far into the deep core as possible, I send genestealers to as many of the nearby core worlds as possible, with the intent to set up a large network of genestealer cults in a way which is impossible to tie them back to the source. I then wait for the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, and just as the Vong begin to lose, I will have every single genestealer cult go into full-kill mode, forcing both sides to fight a two-front war against an enemy already on their soil. Of course, during the time waiting I may have some Primacii infiltrate planetary governments, to provide more biomass for my fleet, and to aid in the effort to make an organic hyperdrive before the Vong invasion. After becoming victorious, I will call for any worlds which were not affected by the war to surrender, and give them a special place as a vassal state if they do, and suck the life out of them if they do not. If I stumble upon any planets under attack by any remnants of the Vong, I make my force look like saviors of sort, and negotiate with the planet to become a vassal state through the use of human-derived Primacii, or just clones of myself and/or any random humans.

2. If I am approached by any Romulan ships I will do some saber-rattling and essentially tell them to fuck off and shut up or become my fleet's lunch, through the use of warning shots and shots respectively. Or perhaps just lunch. Any Federation ship I will greet in a benevolent manor from a single ship by teleporting (Can tyranids teleport? If not I use a sort of shuttle and land in the bay) a slightly-altered (made to look non-human but human enough for ST) clone of myself onto their transporter pad, whilst keeping the rest of my fleet FTL so the chance of SF noticing them become minimal. During negotiations I have a second ship of mine that was out of sensor range attack the SF ship, which teleports/lands a few genestealers aboard which proceed to rampage through the ship and infect as many civilians or crew as possible (said civies and crew act completely normal after infection), and when my clone is informed of it the clone immediately draws a weapon and mutters something under the lines of "Damn it! They followed me!" and 'explains' to the fedies that I am a member of a race which uses a lot of biotechnology which has recently entered a period of civil war, and that the genestealers are the equivalent of combat androids, and then the clone helps find and kill the genestealers and acts all sincere about it whilst my two ships duke-it-out, with the first one winning and the second one appearing to retreat. Once the ship gets to the nearest starbase most infected will 'become ill' and be transferred to the starbase, which will be infected once the ship leaves. Any ships which go to that starbase will pick up infected people or become infected themselves, although to an outside observer nothing will appear to be wrong and all infected will function normally. The starship that found me first will be infected by this time as well, and I will use it and the starbase to get genestealer cults started on as many Federation worlds as possible, although to an outsider the genestealer cults will appear nonexistent and everything completely normal. When the cults begin to span whole worlds I will manipulate the worlds into sending any useful materials to my fleet (which would be hiding in one of those warp-blocking areas) without the Federation knowing. I will then wait until, say, the Dominion War, and through the use of infected politicians in the Federation Council, have my superior fleet enter the war on behalf of the Federation, and then take advantage of the now devastated alpha quadrant by letting my fedie genestealer cults loose upon the hapless Federation and my fleet on the rest of the quadrant, and during this attempt to reverse-engineering warp drive.

3. Infiltrate as many UNSC or Covenant ships as possible and get their drives and nav data, flee to the nearest flood-containing Halo Ring, eat said flood, eat ring (or as much as possible), and monitor UNSC forces through the use of genestealer cults. After the battle of the Ark, attack UNSC remains.

4. Use clones to negotiate with the corporate elite of the world, convincing them to 'join' me through gifts, such as a new drug recipe given to a large pharmaceutical company, etc. After building up enough of a power base to become a reasonably wealthy, respected, yet almost unheard of entity, I turn to politics, giving little pushes or shoves here and there, to slowly shape the world into what I want it to be, and when the time for new order comes, lead the charge and be instated as Emperor of Earth. (Emperor is a so much better title than President or Prime Minister). During this time I'll have my fleet 'prepare' the orion arm of the galaxy for humanity's arrival, charting out useful worlds, and eating anything which stands in its way. As Emperor of Earth, I will get my scientists to adapt Tyranid FTL to a technological rather than biological form, and do the same with things such as sublight propulsion and genetics ability. I will send out human colonization missions to the planets charted after developing the Solar System, designating several worlds as farms to send biomass to my Tyranid fleet, unknown to the public of course, so that I can use both of my powers to fuel each others expansion through the galaxy (Tyranids find alien civs and give tech to humans, humans give food to Tyranids). The grand plan is to eventually develop a way of creating inter-dimensional wormholes to bring my human fleet to the 40k Universe and meet with the IoM preferably before the Horus Heresy, and then meet with the God-Emperor about it, with prospects of alliance. (Two IoMs and a Tyranid Hive are better than one IoM, amiright?)

5. Flip off the Chaos gods as my first priority, and then escape to an area far away enough for no one to bother attacking me but close enough to gather biomass and build up my force in preparation for a Vong-style invasion. Or die, depends if the Tau or Imperium find me.

6. Go to StarCraft. Find Zerg and Protoss. Steal Zerg and Protoss DNA, make super-hybrid. For those who have played SCII, imagine a Hybrid Reaper combined with a Hybrid Destroyer combined with a Tyranid Warrior. Now imagine hordes of them. That is the goal.

I enjoyed 1, 2, and 4.

Also, most of my meager knowledge of 40k is about the Imperium, so what kind of capabilities of the Tyranids did I get right or wrong?

It's probably the same fantasy minded instinct that is the reason for the popularity of anti-hero games like Grand Theft Auto and Hitman.

Ok, what would such a world look like? More importantly why would it be so dangerous?

Glad you enjoyed them. :D However nothing I can remember about the Tyranids says anything about them teleporting so I don't believe that they can. However there is nothing that says you cant try to develop/engineer a teleporting Tyranid.

On that note I forgot to add two of my more favorite shows if anyone wants to take a swing at them.

7. The Stargate-verse say around second to third season SG-1 (I wonder what the effect a goa'uld would have on a creature in a hive mind? or vice-versa for that matter)

8. Babylon 5 during the breakaway from earth. (Bester meet Zoanthrope, Zoanthrope meet Bester. They are going to be such friends. )
You will see the tears of time.

I have to say I love this thread. In most RaR's most people act mostly benevolently with all the powers granted, or abilities gained. IE gain control of the Borg collective? Instant robo-pacifists, lets all get along! But Tyranids? For some reason being your own Tyranid makes everyone go biomass hungry. All for the swarm.

Swarms tend to be more flexible than Borg in terms of man power, objective, etc.

That and Tyranids come from a universe where the good-bad scale is in shades of gray and black with no white ever, so it's expected I think.

I bet if you where to eat the Borg, you'd have the gratitude of just about everyone in the galaxy.

Just so we're all clear, the Tyranids have weapons near the Star Wars range and FTL that is...rather difficult to quantify, apparently. (They actually have two FTLs, one of which is Warp based and the other is some sort of Space Unicorn Whale!)

Zoanthropes can teleport units on the battlefield, but I don't know about stellar distances.

For all but the 40k universe, i would create a utopian goverment inforced by massive tyranid hords. In the halo verse i would work to git the key ship from highy charity.

See, IvanTih? It is possible for everyone to win.

If we're going into full on personal fantasy mode, I'd also make drone-clones of Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Al Leong, etc., and make my own Expendables movie. The blood will be real. The cam won't be shakey (I'll get a Lictor to hold it). And there will one liners like you wouldn't believe.

I don't get what is with all the ambition.
I mean, I think I will have to totaly retract my post.

New strategy: - In any universe
Firstly, I would try and find a way of having the nids somehow make me immortal, or at least as long living and unaging as possible. I think that this would be within the realm of possibility.

Than I would find samples of fine wines, beautiful women and other delights of life.
And as a last step, I would lead the fleet into the intergalactic void to travel forever and far away from any life enjoying forever.

Purple, I know you think your sarcasm is biting, but considering your post...
OMG, the fun.
I would immediately land in full force on the planet decimating and devouring everything in my path. The only thing I would spare is Japan where I would establish my seat of power surrounding my self with nerdy yet cute girls.

I think I would not even expand beyond that point. No need, I would just live out the rest of my days in luxury surrounded by servants, girls, anime, and an army of bio weapons at my call if anyone gets any ideas.
...makes you look like a cross between a basement-dwelling permavirgin otaku and a million Hitlers, I really would hope that you avoided all "life enjoying" forever. Your sociopathy is showing and it ain't pretty.
