(War40k) Who knows the Emperor is a psyker?

Post by Meest »

Re-reading Faith and Fire (Sororitas book) and there's big disdain for pyskers, the Sister Superior even mocks the "abhuman Astartes even allow them into their ranks", though she acknowledges that psykers are tools and witches are a different evil. So just wondering which organizations know the Emperor is a psyker and not just some divine magic maker and a Sister not knowing where Astartes come from (or appalled by it), aren't they closer to the Emperor than she is?

It's just mental gymnastics/hypocrisy on the part of the more puritan echelons of the Imperium. Dirty psykers are bad because they're bad; but the Emperor is righteous and pure, as are His Servants. No fancy explanations needed, it's just religious doctrine.

Space Marines are not particularly religious by contrast, so there can be so some friction between Sororitas and Astartes. Sororitas revere the Emperor as a god, whereas to Astartes he's merely an ancient champion and father figure.

I seem to recall reading somewhere in somthing offical (Though I might be wrong) that it's the great Paradox among Witch Hunters, that all psykers are evl inhuman scum, yet the Emperor is also a Psyker yet none of those things.

They probably either don't think about it at all (It's not like the Imperium encorages critical thinking now is it) or have a "But it's alright if the Emperor does it" clause.
This odyssey, this, exodus. Do we journey toward the promised land, or into the valley of the kings? Three decades ago I envisioned a new future for our species, and now that we are on the brink of realizing my dream, I feel only solitude, and regret. Has my entire life's work been a fool's crusade? Have I led my people into this desert, only to die?

There are two interpretations that come to mind. I will list them both and let people decide for them self what they prefer.

1. When it is done by the Emperor they call it a miracle, when it is done by a common man they call it witchcraft.
Kind of like how Jesus could walk on water and cure the blind but the local herb wench would get burned at the stake.

2. The Emperor being who he is and all had absolute control over his powers while most human psykers don't. Hence he poses no threat of suddenly transforming the immediate surroundings into hell, summoning demons by an accident and doing all sorts of nasty stuff to the people and places around him while the others do do. So it might make sense to treat the only guy that actual has the power without the risk differently or even as a god.
It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.

You win. There, I have said it.

Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

I would imagine that since the emperor seems to be the only human psyker immune to chaos subversion he's considered a special case.

I put it down to classic doublethink and subconscious hypocrisy.

Edit : Upon reading the wiki definition of hypocrisy
Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually have. Hypocrisy involves the deception of others and is thus a kind of lie.
I withdraw that accusation and leave it at pure doublethink.
doublethink is the act of simultaneously accepting as correct two mutually contradictory beliefs

Which organisations are aware that the Emperor is a psyker?

Hmm. It will be a pretty long list.

The Administratum, Ecclesiarchy including SoB etc, Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Council of Terra, Admech, Assassins (cant remember the official name), Imperial Navy, planetary governers and spireborn/upper classes, Rogue Traders, Inquisition, Commiseriat, Adeptus Telepathica, the noble houses of Navigators , adeptus arbites.

Cant think of many more off the top of my head, but basically anyone who isnt an illiterate nobody should be aware that the emperor is a psyker since the whole "encased in the golden throne powering the astronomicon/soulbinding psykers to make astropaths/sheilding and protecting mankind" angle is pretty much spelled out to everyone.

The problem isnt who knows the emperor is a psyker its who can doublethink it out of the equation enough to hate all other psykers.

The doublethink is perfect for the setting but I don't even think it's required. The Emperor can be the perfect psyker, incapable of falling to the Warp. Any psyker out there who can do that is welcomed by the inquisition with open arms. Oh, wait, none of the rest of you can do that, then? You all run the risk of possession? Too bad, time to feed the emperor. Psykers for the Psyker god! Souls for the Golden Throne!

I think that the vast majority of the Empire simply accepts the Emperor as being infallible and doesn't question it. I mean Jesus hasn't blown up a star system lately and people accept him as the creator of all things it isn't that much of a leap to get to the Emperor.
