The Event (how do you make a backwards E?)

Post by zipster »

Hey,

Is anyone still watching this show? I think I quit after the 3rd episode but I happened to catch it last night.

The ending "surprise" made me LOL, but as someone may be watching it I'll hide it to prevent spoilers:
Spoiler
Sophia, the leader of the aliens, wants to bring her 2.5 billion people to Earth as their home star is about to Super Nova.
They have a portal which is going to transport them and the viewer assumes it's going to bring only the people. The surprise is it actually transports their whole planet and puts it in orbit of earth similar distance to the moon.
This made me laugh because the purpose of bringing the people here was to save them, but isn't putting a planet in equal size to earth, right next to earth, a great way to destroy BOTH planets as they collide and annihilate each other?
Seemed like quite an epic fail to me on all points.

I've seen a little of this but it didn't hold my interest.

On your spoiler.
Spoiler
No, it's not. There is one prominent example of such a thing working in real life, Pluto and its "moon" charon have a barycenter (a point they orbit around) outside of Pluto; a working example of two large objects sharing a stable orbit around the sun.

It probably wouldn't do the tides any good, and Earth's moon would complicate matters, but it can be done, and frankly, if you're teleporting planets across the universe, you can set up a stable three body system.

So the 'event' was an alien planet full of technologically advanced beings coming to our solar system?

No apparently "the event" is yet to happen as they keep trying to drag the plot out.

well, I doubt they'll be able to drag it out any longer since the show's been canceled.
