So... it seems that Samuel Youd (John Christopher being his best known nom de plume) died in early February at the highly respectable age of 89. Thought that some people here might have read at one point or another some of his books and would want to know.
I think that I'll be re-reading some of his very well-written young adult novelettes.

That takes me back; I read his Tripod books as a teen. At least he made it all the way to 89.
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

I fondly remember the Tripod books from my childhood.

Wow, and I just finished rereading The White Mountains.
Still 89 is quite a life.

Wow. I had completely forgotten about these books!
Hmm, well I guess here's one guy that was benefited by his 89 years of life. I'm sure there were many out there.

Too bad that he has passed. I read and enjoyed those books as a child, and had entirely forgotten who the author was. I would recommend them to any young reader.
