Revolution S1E8 "The Ties that Bind"

Post by amigocabal »

We learn more about Nora as Miles and co. attempt to cross the Allegheny River near Freeport, Pennsylvania, about twenty-seven miles from Pittsburgh. In the meantime, a Monroe Militia sergeant attempts to capture Miles and the pendant that could repower electrical stuff.
Spoiler
Miles and co. arrive at the Butler Road bridge in Freeport, where it crosses the Allegheny. The Militia controls the bridge, and they retreat to an underground parking garage to figure outg the next course of action.

We see Strausser holding a hostage. The hostage is Mia, Nora's sister. We see a flashback of Mia and Nora in the aftermath of the Blackout. They were hiding from intruders, and she later finds her mother, dead. Miles tries to destroy the pendant with his sword to keep Monroe from getting it, but the pendant seems to be a bit durable
Meanwhile in Philly...
Spoiler
Lieutenant Jason Neville is being beaten by Militia guards. Major Tom Neville walks and and demand what is going on, and the senior guard tells him that General Monroe ordered the interrogation.

Tom meets with Monroe. It seems Jason was asking a few questions, even bribing a stablehand. Monroe then informs Tom that Jason will be assigned to a diplomatic mission in California, out of his respect for Tom. The alternative is execution for treason.
Back in Freeport... Spoiler
Miles and co. rescues Mia. But they are still on the west side of the Allegheny, and no closer to crossing the bridge. Another flashback is shown, with Nora and Mia going to their father's house in Galveston, Texas. (Their parents were divorced at the time of the Blackout.) Mia says she knows a coyote who can help them cross, but the next morning they find his corpse. Mia mentions something to Nora. Their father is still alive and living in Texas, she says. He had gone to San Antonio to look for the girls at the same time they went to look for him. Mia then proposes that Nora accompany her to Texas to meet their father, and Nora objects, saying she needs to help Miles and co. find Danny. Charlie injects her opinion, saying that she would want to see her father again, and that Nora should go. Charlie's argument convinces Nora, and she decides to leave, kissing Miles before she does so.
However...
Spoiler
As Nora and Mia walk, they are confronted by Strausser and his men. Mia turns over the pendant; she had pilfered it from Aaron. Nora learns that Mia was a bounty hunter for the Republic, hunting down rebels. Strausser tells Nora to thank her sister, since she saved her life.

Nora is understandably upset. She asked if Mia lied about having met their father, and Mia responds that Nora did the same about their mother in the aftermath of the Blackout. She also says that Strausdser found out she was Nor's sister and threatened her life if she did not cooperate. Nora decides to leave her sister and help Miles and co. reach Philly.

She saves them from an ambush, and Miles briefly engages in melee with Strausser. Strausser breaks away and escapes with the pendant. To cross the river, they all jump in the rapids.
But there is more action in Philly...
Spoiler
While with his wife Julia, Tom hears a rumor from the housekeeper that Colonel Faber's son, Steven, was mixed up with the rebels. Later, the cell of rebels were captured and execurted, including Faber's son. Faber himself is being brutally interrogated. as reward for the tip leading to the foiling of the rebel plot, Monroe decides to keep Jason in Philly.

Back in the Neville home, Julia tells Tom that Monroe has become unstable ever since Miles left, and she suggests that someone replace Monroe.

Strausser presents the pendant to Monroe, who smiles.
And the icing on the cake...
Spoiler
Randall Flynn escorts Grace beaumont to a control room with working monitors. The pendants have tracking devices, and they learn Monroe has one of them.
my observations.
Spoiler
I like the interaction between Miles and Strausser, especially copmments about a rubber room and about how the Militia provides an outlet.
Spoiler
Strausser kills one of his men for failing. He must be very good at what he does, if Monroe allows him to do that.
Spoiler
The central narrative is family. In this case, we see the bond between Nora and the rest of her crew, and the bond between her and her sister. Her sister was willing to steal the necklace and deliver it to the Militia to save Nora's life.

Monroe also questions family ties, not satisfied with Faber's protests that he and his son are estranged. This must make Tom wonder if Monroe would turn against him if he suspecrted Jason of treason.

I'll bring it up, as it's something I would want to discuss, which would you consider the better family? Those who are blood, or those who are always there for you? And in Nora's case, does that apply?

Also, thing to note from the technical side, that warehouse the pendant people are in is huge, I wonder if all of that is the necessary hardware for keeping the lights off.

I am just happy the episode had a far lower rag tag group of children quotient.

I would consider the former better. Indeed, one essential component for a successful marriage, from which families spring from, is always being there for the other.

In Nora's case, she had only been with the group for weeks; it was understandable that she woulsd trust her sister, especially since Spoiler
she did not know Mia did bounty hunting for the Militia

The facility is underground, and it looks obvious that it was ground zero for the Blackout.
