So you basically created this thread for mindless +1 bullshit because the other thread didn't go the way you wanted? Stark is right, let the adults talk and go get us some drinks, kid.

As much as Blood and Chrome gets bashed over being a paint-by-numbers story with special effects, I actually do enjoy it. It's refreshing to get a straight-up space opera storyline once in a while, even if it's just a spectacle - not every SF has to be meaningful or even that dramatic.

You misunderstand. It's a thread to sing the praises of the show. Obviously there are fans, disappointed fans and haters. The other thread is for disappointed fans. There's not really anything productive to be had from haters, no insights to be had.Flagg wrote:So you basically created this thread for mindless +1 bullshit because the other thread didn't go the way you wanted? The question wasn't "Did Galactica fail?" but "If you think Galactica failed..."
So, praise thread, no hating.

Listen, jollyreaper: I responded in that thread to prevent group think and to make sure everyone wasn't patting each other on the back with excessive agreement. I think the thread is more interesting the way it is now and I'm having the best time posting on this forum I've had in years. It's frustrating, but completely worth it as I love discussing art.

Well, I'm glad it's providing interest. I like arguing ideas, I just hate it when arguments devolve into personal slander. The preface of the entire thread is "This didn't work for me; if it didn't work for you, why?" Whatever the critics say, RDM is making bank, DVD's are still selling, so even with the ratings drop it's a commercial success for him. He's continuing to put out material. So are the Black Eyed Peas. No matter what my opinion of them is, they are at the top of the game in pop music.

Doesn't segregating discussion of x based on whether or not one liked it ruin any chances of good conversation? Instead of a back and forth you just make two circlejerks.jollyreaper wrote:Praise thread. No haters allowed. So say y'all.

I don't think you know what that means. Did you know that it was not an appropriate response?jollyreaper wrote:+1 ad hominem against JR!Stark wrote:Do you honestly think he's referring to your contributions? Like, for serious?
If you think Tucker is enjoying that thread because of your posts (well, putting aside the humour element), I really want to know because it would blow me the fuck away.
This is, unfortunately for you, not an 'ad hominem'. You're just an idiot.

Or we could keep it all in one thread and it would all be yeah-huh and nuh-uh. I was trying to avoid that.Gandalf wrote:Doesn't segregating discussion of x based on whether or not one liked it ruin any chances of good conversation? It sounds like you just flat-out agreed you didn't want discussion.
Re: For those who feel nuGalactica is the greatest scifi eva
Look Stark, I don't know if you know what it's like on the rest of the internet where JR is from, but out there you're not allowed to criticise other people's opinions in a way that might provoke discussion, because that might offend someone.
This is why he is so obviously bad at engaging in discussion, because he's had no practise, see?

It actually appears more like purposeless trolling and name-calling and then the claim of having the moral high ground of being an adult.
But whatever. You're having fun, Far be it from me to spoil your pleasure.

If I watch the series again over the coming weeks and bestow my praise, will you join the discussion to say the praise isn't warranted?jollyreaper wrote:It actually appears more like purposeless trolling and name-calling and then the claim of having the moral high ground of being an adult.

Re: For those who feel nuGalactica is the greatest scifi eva
Not in this thread, no. What's the point in trying to convince someone who enjoyed something that they didn't actually enjoy it or that they shouldn't have? There's analysis -- teasing apart a story to see how it did and didn't work -- and then there's just being a dick.JLTucker wrote:If I watch the series again over the coming weeks and bestow my praise, will you join the discussion to say the praise isn't warranted?jollyreaper wrote:It actually appears more like purposeless trolling and name-calling and then the claim of having the moral high ground of being an adult.

I'd encourage you to air your disagreements if I did. But thankfully, I have no desire to watch all the episodes again any time soon.jollyreaper wrote:Not in this thread, no. I wonder what calling everyone you don't like a troll counts as in this simplistic breakdown?jollyreaper wrote:There's analysis -- teasing apart a story to see how it did and didn't work -- and then there's just being a dick.
The idea people who like something and people who don't need to be segregated is fucking bizarre. As an adult, I can have intelligent conversations with people about things I don't like (indeed it appears I'm more able to discuss nBSG than you and I fucking hate it). Its important to keep the main object in view, which hopefully isn't 'echo chamber of people who agree with me'.
