It seems to be Yahoo/Apple only for the time being (can't find embeddable YouTube link yet) but you can see it here.

Well he was the original cast that all died, and now he's super-ultra bankable, so it's a good idea to keep him in the film.

I'm less sold on the replacement eye-candy ladies. But at least the korean sword chopper is still there, his jackets made my day.

For me the eye candy is Snake Eyes' new costume and all the toy-accurate Cobra gear. That stuff gives me the sex drive of an 8 year old boy, so the ladies all have cooties as far as I'm concerned.

That is a good thing.

Yeah the Snake-eyes obsession that ruined the franchise for 20 years phew glad that's in there.

Its a bit lame that all the character work they put into the other cast is thrown out (I guess because lame people hated the film) so we'll get yet more revolving door introductions and less Channing Tatum punching dudes.

Not only is Byung-hun Lee back in it, he is apparently even more spectacular.

How well do reshoots actually tend to work in a film? Conceptually it sounds like an editing nightmare and I'd be surprised if the story didn't suffer for it.

Anyway, since the first trailer I've been following this film closely. I really like the aesthetic and tone they seem to be going for which appears more appropriate than the first one, and the director seems to have a good handle on what makes the idea of 80s G.I. Joe fun at its core. But neat shots don't really mean anything unless it comes together well, so we'll see.

--

(i'll go on an indulgent tangent here lol feel free to ignore):

I've always considered a lot of the power in G.I. Joe to come from this... almost pantheonic approach to its mythology, which I guess arose out of the toy marketing approach. You know, you have infinite nameless grunts who just shoot at each other but then there are the elite named characters with their own unique skills and relationships who engage in these epic struggles on a more personal level against those on the other side, sort of like the distinction between cops and superheroes.

I don't know if that's a particularly special interpretation but I think if you managed to deliberately capture the core of that sort of "clash of titans" idea you'd have a very engaging film.

The first movie was more an ensemble show, where the old cartoon was totally legions of nobodies led by superheroes struggle for supremacy.

I've often wondered if the reason G.I. Joe has been limping since the 80s is because the people in charge of its branding don't recognize what made it popular in the first place. I personally think it resonated for the reasons you and I identify.

or it could mostly be a different political climate and different market forces, etc

It was because they forgot about the armies of sweet tanks and jets and robots fighting each other to constantly retell the Snake-Eyes/Storm Shadow melodrama of lameness if you ask me.

Yes, it was the 90s. Yes, everyone loves ninjas. But it's not GI Ninja is it? More tanks and triple A10s and articulated missile road trains please.

it's kind of why i'm looking forward to this one: the first movie seemed reluctant to embrace anything at all about the mythos (in fact I've heard Sommers just had the script for some random-ass spy movie he wanted to do adapted for the project), whereas this one has classic Commander helmet! Hiss tanks! Cobra troopers!

a god damn cobra flag over the white house

jesus christ he's right on the money

How does Stark feel about the staggering lack of Baroness in this movie?

The look on the North Korean guy's face during the world leader meeting was priceless.

IIRC, It was Zartan in just about every work where the question comes up. The only real differences are where Storm Shadow is involved.

Comic: Killed by Zartan using tech to impersonate Storm Shadow. Snake-Eyes was the real target. HM imitated him at the wrong time.

Resolute: Zartan on Storm Shadow's order.

Renegades: Accidentally poisoned by Storm Shadow. Again, Snake-Eyes was the target.

But then there's all the backstory why Zartan did it. Like Cobra Commander hiring Zartan to do it because his brother was killed in a car accident with Snake Eyes' family. The bit about how Zartan wanted to back out of the job at the last minute, but was unable to. Then Firefly somehow gets the hell into it as the mastermind (who has been a ninja all along...*GASP!*)
