And Chuck's journey to the Gater side is now complete.

Nice to see, bit of a pain to wait for him to do the Enemy Within. Always great to see the series getting some well-deserved love.

Is there any insight, or just recaps with a side of "I like/dislike this."

Mostly recaps with 'i like this because' and some commentary on how it well it makes the transfer from film to tvshow.

I am looking forward to the Enemy Within review.

And thus, a TV franchise lasting 14 years began.

I do have some observations and questions.

Why was not the gate at Chulak guarded? While it likely did not merit a shield or even a permanent fortification (Chulak is apparently not Apophis's throneworld) , Apophis being on world at the very least merited a temporary guard detail while he was there.

Teal'C understanding O'Neill is implicitly explained in a later episode ("Demons")

And explicitly in "Threshold" where Teal'c has flashbacks over a lifetime of questioning Apophis' apparent divinity.

I suspect the gate wasn't guarded because the other Goa'uld might have gotten offended. Just a guess. It's also quite probable that Apophis felt secure enough not to bother, a very common thing in the early seasons.

As far as he was concerned the real threat was from other System Lords and they'd come with their fleet not by the gate.

I know it's tad off-topic but was it ever stated what was Apophis' orginal throne world or if he even had one.

Nope. Well, he took over Sokar's later and even died there. But Chulak is much more important as Teal'c and Bra'tak's home than for anything relating to Apophis.

I remember in the early seasons that Chulak was referred to as "the Jaffa Homeworld," but that was later revealed to be a mistake on the part of the earth characters who wouldn't know much about the galaxy at this time.

Later SG1 went back to cover the issue a little more. Forget the characters name, but the one played by Lois Gosset Jr. After he got turned by the Ori, Tealc used Chulak in order to bring him back. Chulak has important historical significance to the Jaffa, not just as Bretac and Tealc's home.

The "Jaffa" homeworld would be Earth, wouldn't it? Jaffa are just humans who have been Jaffafied.

I thought it was Dakara since that was where their enslavement began.

Makes sense.

As far as I know, biologically, they're human - just separated by x amount of thousands of years (movie was 10k?) and modified to have pouches (as Hathor did to O'Neill in season 1).

If Jaffa is defined as them under the control of the Goa'uld, then Dakara would be it, symbolically.

He mentioned it as the site of some previous battle against the Goa'uld that made Gerak lose his faith because his father died there. It always annoyed me that they never went into more detail about that. I mean was it an early Jaffa uprising against the Goa'uld, a battle between two system lords, or a battle that took place off screen during the show?

The explanation used by the Alderac RPG was that Chulak, as a major jaffa homeworld and site used for selecting hosts, is generally considered neutral, and thus there was no major risk to him there.

Someone should do a Connor-style analysis of the SG1 RPG. It sounds like it's got a lot of interesting information about the setting.

There appear to be three important worlds to the Jaffa. Dakkara was the birth place of the Jaffa themselves. And eventually banished from this world, which increased their interest in holding onto the history. Chulak appears to have been important several times in Jaffa history. As mentioned, a neutral world, so a place of many people. And of course the Tauri. The birth place of humanity and birth of all that allowed the galaxy to become what it was.

Speaking of which, I'm looking forward to that review if only for the comedy value.

But the 'Jaffa Homeworld' depends on interpretation really. If one is being uber-literal, then it would be Earth since Jaffa were human at one point. But if one goes for the Jaffa homeworld, one could argue Dakara as that was where they became Jaffa proper.

Pretty sure the Jaffa consider Dakaara their homeworld, as before that they weren't Jaffa. Teal'c mentions having never imagined he'd get to go there. It's also sort of the Vatican of the Goa'uld religion, hence why taking and holding it was so important.

That said, the Jaffa apparently also tell each other stories (very, very quietly) of the rebellion on Earth and a free world with no gods. And about Kheb. And the Sodan. And the Asgard. Someone really should have had Teal'c write down every legend and barracks tale the Goa'uld would have been upset to hear. Instead, they seemed to give up on questioning him after he made it clear that he's not a technician and how has no clue how "Goa'uld magic" works.

I'm watching the first video right now and I love the tangent he goes off on regarding aliens and nasal tissue.
