I'm conflicted about this. I want to see it, but it doesn't look good enough to see.

They made it look like rubbish, seemingly forgetting about the social commentary weaved throughout the original.

Sure, there may be social commentary in this one but the trailer does nothing to demonstrate it.

The only social commentary this film is going to generate is how fucking awful it is.

A CGI wank fest interlaced with crappy drama pretending to be something deep about technology and control, watered down for family viewing ?
- Fuck off

PG-13 / 12A Robocop ?
- I wont even buy that for a dollar.

That isn't Robocop. Where's the guy getting shreded by ED209? Why does Alex Murphy nearly bite it due to a car bomb and not a gangland style execution? You can't cut the R rated nature from a movie and claim to be remaking it in good faith.

Why not? The dark knight manage to convey violence effectively without an m rating.

Why should I have to settle for jump cuts and CGI blood instead of a good hard R action movie? I loved the shit out of Dredd in all of it's gory hyper violence, or if you think that one was too underground how the last Rambo movie. I want a return to action movies that can show some gore, I don't want a cut right before a kill shot or a fight so shaky I can't see what's going on.

Plus, why the need to remove two of the scenes that most people will recall from the actual Robocop movie? Is an explosion more dramatic than a gang slowly destroying a cop while taunting him?

Huh. Micheal Keaton, Gary Oldman, and Samuel L. Jackson? I thought that was Nicole Kidman too, but apparently not. I wasn't even aware that Michael Keaton was still acting. Looked kinda generic, though.

I'm a bit split over whether or not I'm going to see it. If I've got disposable income then I will, if not then I won't. As far as comparing it to the original? Well it's been awhile since I saw it and I frankly don't remember that much about it. I'm also a firm believer in the idea that original hasn't ceased to exist and that should I be so inclined I can go back and watch it. If this turns out to be a great film then that's awesome, if not then oh well the old one is still there for your viewing pleasure.

Growing up when Robocop first came out in the 80's, I can say that this is definitely something I want to see. Social commentary? Hard to get a good idea of that from a 2 minute video clip. Going on what I see, it looks like at the very least a great action movie with enough nods to the original to take me back.

Though the apparent lack of "hyper-violence" is a point against it - I think what really kills it is the fact that they are eschewing well...everything except "critically injured". His memories seem there from the get go, ditching the whole identity crisis, and that aspect really is what makes Robocop, Robocop.

It looked to me like a bit of an identity crisis. Original Robocop had him be pretty much clinically dead, and many of his memories went along with him. This time he wasn't dead, but it seems like a struggle to keep himself from losing his humanity to the machine.

Seems like a totally different concept, which is kinda cool to me since you know, remake.

But I'm going to wait for the review because nothing about the trailer pops out at me.

Dredd's what came to mind for me, too, but I don't love the movie because it's gory. Dredd and #DirtyLaundry were both really nice work, and I'm looking forwards to the ensemble action movie that he's working on.

This, on the other hand, I'm not so sure about. It's got the trappings of a movie I'd want to see, but I don't know that the heart's in the right place.

We saw an ED 209, and it'll probably kill somebody.

As far as car bomb vs gangland execution...so what? If I wanted to watch the original Robocop, I'd watch the original Robocop. This is a reboot, so I don't care if they change up the story. Really, just doing the same story but with flashy CGI would be boring anyway. We've seen that story already, no reason they can't work to make a new one.

I kinda like how the new Robo is more agile than the old one. Robocop on a motorcycle? That's just plain cool.

Its got big names for the secondaries, which is good. Its got an unknown for Robocop, which is also good. I'm really not happy with Murphy keeping his memories from the get-go. I remain skeptical.

Did Murphy have any next of kin in the original? If Murphy's still Murphy it would be easier to sell this as a humanitarian gesture, even if the price is that he return to work, rather than "Hey, can we turn your husband's corpse into a killing machine?"

In the Original the police was either payed or owned by OCP and Murphy's contract had a 'If you die your body is ours to do with as we please' loophole as far as I remember.

The new one seems to offer his wife to choose to give him a new life... he has 4th degree burns on 80% of his body and would be paraplegic IF he survives.

And why don't they have the newly revived Murphy in a murderbot secured with heavy restraints when they tell him "That's not a suit, that's you"?

There also were some kind of androids that look like predecessors to the Robocop cyborg.
"Bring your thousands, I have my axe."
"Bring your cannons, I have my armor."
"Bring your mighty... I am my own champion."
Cue Unit-01 ramming half the Lance of Longinus down Adam's head and a bemused Gendo, "Wrong end, son."

I should note that trailers can be deceiving, implying a different context than what appears in the finished film. The only things we may be sure of are..

* OCP runs the Detroit Police Dept.

* Alex Murphy was burnt to a crisp, not unlike Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith.
