Having watched the whole thing, the only real competition you have is from the Skyguard entry. Thaat thing is a serious contender.

I know, right! Though I liked the pro quality animation more than the design itself, which is pretty standard.

Still, with two more Round 1 episodes and 16 gun designs left to see, the team to beat may yet be unveiled.

The consensus on the SC subreddit seems pretty heavily slanted towards the Skyguard entry, I'm afraid. Still, they don't get to vote, and CIG do, so hey.

Fortunately I'm already past the gate, and no matter who's weapon becomes the official version, I'm still in the running to design the starship, which it the real prize.

Ok so apparently I can't fucking read today.

My only piece of advice is maybe an energy pulse viewed through a few slits in the Particle Accelerator apparatus set in time with the bolt leaving the barrel. Just a thought you might wanna try if you're allowed to keep working on it. It will probably suck but if it works it could prove awesome. Overall for what is supposed to be an alien tech hybrid weapon (from what I gathered) it's downright tits and if you don't win you have the right to burn down the brewery in righteous fury.

So I watched it again and you do have the slits, I don't know how I missed them except I must be mentally challenged or something. I see they pulse as the weapon fires, but if you had them pulse in sequence to make it look like the energy bolt was being moved along the path of the particle accelerator it may look more awesome than it already does. But you may not want to do that because... Mentally challenged.

Still, if you lose, burn down the brewery.

Was barrel rotation part of the design brief?

A lot of them seemed to have rotating barrels for the sale of having rotating barrels.

Also, I was surprised by how few of them modelled any recoil. If you're going to show a projectile leaving a barrel, you also need to show the weapon feeling the effects of, and compensating for, the recoil. Otherwise you're going to be transmitting the refill to the hull of the spaceship which will win you no friends kng space jockeys

The description in the guidelines was of a particle accelerator (rather than a traditional ammo consuming weapon w/ recoil) with a rotating barrel, influenced by alien technology, so those criteria are evident in most submissions.

My gun should fit on every ship in game. I'm maxed on the X and Y, but have room to spare on the Z.

Okay, that Soviet doomcannon from the Troika entry? That...is gonna be a hard act for you to tangle with, man. That thing is badass, and the judges clearly agree with me.

And a German doomcannon as well. The VisionCut entry is nice, but the phoned in the back section of the weapon, and that's going to kill them. It's going forwards, but it's not going to win.

Yeah, the engine integration aspect is starting to worry me as I begin fiddling with CryEngine. I think I'll do quite well in the concept and modeling stages, but when it gets further on, my novice UV mapping and engine work is likely to make it very hard to win. I'm certainly going to try though!
