Favourite Red Dwarf Era?

Post by Spanky The Dolphin »

So, what's your favourite era of the British science fiction comedy television programme Red Dwarf?

I've organised the poll according to the best possible groupings of the different series (what the Limeys call seasons :P ), and have included an option for the novels.

For myself, Series 1-2 were the best.

I just love series 4,

Cat:"so what i it?"
Kryten:"ive never seen one before but im guessing it's a white hole"
Rimmer:"a WHITE hole?"
Kryten"yes, a black hole sucks time and matter out of the universe, a white hole returns it"
Lister puts on his hat: "so that thing's spewing time back into the universe"
Cat: "so what is it?"
Kryten: "i've never seen one before, but i'm guessing it's a white hole"....
...
Cat: "So what is it?"
Cat: "only joking"

I don't agree with your groupings, Spank. It should be:

1-2
3-5
6
7
8
novels

or possibly 7-8, but whoever votes for them is gonna get inot trouble.

Anyway....

"What shall we do with them, Mr. Flibble?"
"Oh no, we can't do that. Who would clear up the mess?"

and...

Cat: "You're going to go with one of my plans? Are you nuts? What happens if we all get killed? I'll never hear the last of it."
- Cat, Gunmen of the Apocalypse

Rimmer: "I've seen Westerns, I know how to speak cowboy."
Steps up to the bar.
Rimmer: "Dry white wine and Perrier, please ."
- Rimmer, Gunmen of the Apocalypse

Cat: "Is that why no-one on the planet is brave, sexy, noble or charming?"
Rimmer: "All crimes here."
Cat: "I must be Public Enemy numbers one, two and three."
- Cat and Rimmer, Rimmerworld

Rimmer: "Do you think it's because the sub-space conduits have locked with the transponder calibrations and caused a major tachyon surge that has overloaded the time matrix?"
Kryten: "Ah, no, sir. I've just been jabbing it too hard."
- Rimmer and Kryten, Tikka to Ride

" Well, the thing about a black hole - it's main distinguishing feature - is it's black. And the thing about space, your basic space colour is black. So how are you supposed to see them? "
- Holly, Marooned

RimmerCat: "I'm not asking you to do anything I wouldn't do."
Rimmer: "You? You'd sacrifice your life for the good of the crew?"
Cat: "No! I'd sacrifice your life for the good of the crew."
- Cat, White Hole

How can I decide?

:D

Well Cutie, to me, Series 5 always "felt" different from 3-4. Hence I grouped it differently. :P

Did anyone else really find the seventh series as a bit lame?

Who'd have guessed Quarantine is one of my favourite episodes? It also has the distinction of being the first episode of Red Dwarf that I saw.

Yeah I thought it and series 8 just weren't the same quality as the earlier series, probably because Rob Grant had left.

s7 did suck beans really...there's no getting away from it. OBviously canned laughter, on the xtended, no canned laughter, all the jokes sounded pointless. Gah horrid series. They did much better with series 8 though, even though lots of people disagree with me.

If all of season 7 had been more like 'tikka to ride', it would have been better off. Though the Rimmer experience was priceless.
