The Ten Who Were Taken vs The Nazgul

Post by Stormbringer »

The Ten Who were Taken from the Black Company series versus the Nazgul.

The Taken are snatched up shortly before the Battle at Charm. Do to the Dominators influence being cut off they will now work together, sort of. They are given the Tower of Charm as a base of operations.

The Ulari are grabbed shortly before the hunt for the ring. The Witch-King Angamar is now in charge with unquestioned obedience. The get Minas Morgul as a base.

They are plunked down in the Shannara universe at end of Wishsong of Shannara. Neither side has any allies with them, they'll have to recruit if they can. Minas Morgul replaces the Druid Keep. Charm replaces Greymark.

Who is left living in the end or at least undead at the end?

I don't know them that well to comment, but can the ten harm beings which are essentially 'dead'?

They destroy armies of undead, as easily as they do the living.

They are from the Black Company seris by Glenn Cook. Seven sorcerers and three sorceresses that were enslaved by the Dominator (a sauron-esque evil guy). They were his chief henchmen and enfocers for his empire. Eventually they, the Dominator, and The Lady were beaten by the White Rose. Placed in a sort of stasis they slept for a few hundred years before a socerer with a crush on the Lady woke her and the Taken. Under the Lady the resumed the role of enforcers and henchmen. For more of a history than that you'll have to read the books.

The Taken specialize in destructive spells. To them leveling cities is a common thing (though they aren't usually allowed to). They tend use fire, lightening, and strange enerygies. Their magic is almost exclusively destructive, the notable exception is their ability to use flying carpet.

Soulcatcher and The Limper, two of the best known Taken, are both quite insane. They both absolutely revel in destruction and pain. The Limper tends to do it on a massive scale, Soulcatcher prefers it to be intimate and personal.

Are they human? If not, the "cannot be slain by the hand of man" doesn't apply...

The Taken are human, sort of. They, The Lady and the Dominator were all human. They've al wrapped themselves in so many protective spells, wards, and charmw they are immortal and near invicible. The Limper survived his head being cut off with no problem (aside from a missing body). Whether they would qualify as human anymore is anyones guess.

The Ten.

The Limper single-handly wrecked upwards of a dozen major cities. Have you ever seen the Nazgul do anything on that scale?

But killing the Nazgul takes some sort of holy magic. We have no idea whether or not any of those spells would bother the Nazgul at all. I'm sure the 10 could level Minas Morgul, but they may not have any way to stop the Nine. They could probably temporarily disrupt them, but then, the Nine don't care.

You ask about contrasting magic systems, don't expect a legitimate answer.

I say the Nazgul, as the only sword that could defeat him was the Numenorean blade Merry had.
"All blades perish that which enter the cloak of that terrible king" I know I've botched that a little, but thats the jist of it.
But this may also depend on where this happens, because I figured that is this happens near (the relocated) Minas Morgul, the Nazgul will have an advantage as that place would spread fear and stuff like that.

Not slain by men, allowed them to be killed by a FEMALE, and three of the Taken ARE WOMEN.

Soulcatcher, being the most evil, and obvious example.

All these "Nazgul cannot be killed" arguments can be countered very simply. The Ten are ridiculously powerful, and I would wager that The Dominator could wipe the floor with Sauron, so I suspect, if the Ten actually worked together for ONCE IN THEIR LIVES! that they could enslave the Nazgul as they were enslaved, making kind of mini-taken, like Smoke in the Books of the South. Failing this, they could imprison the Nazgul, one of the women could do it, or they could crush them into powder and scatter them to the wind. Or, if you really want to get picky about the weapons bit, Bonegnasher could EAT (No exaggeration, eat as in munch-munch, could use some salt) them. Also, just a question, does anyone know who the third female taken is?
I have figured out this much from Chronicles and Books of the South.
Soulcatcher (Female)
Stormbringer (Female)
Nightcrawler
Moonbiter
Limper (Male)
Shapeshifter (Male)
Bonegnasher (Male)
Hanged Man (Male)
Faceless Man (Male)
Howler (Male)
Is Moonbiter/Moondog also Moonshadow?
Cause if so Nightcrawler is female, if not, I have no idea.
