Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles

Post by Tsyroc »

Did anyone see this show?

I thought it was pretty cool, although it can get boring if you watch too many episodes back to back.

I particularly liked the robotic trooper "Chas". He was bad ass. Unfortunately laters episodes showed that design getting spanked by the bug mutated version of Zander.

I caught a few episodes. I detested it. It continued that bastardized version created by that shitty ass movie.

And whats more, it sucked on it's own as well. It was flat out boring. It was all eye candy to me. No real investment in it's characters. And if you don't care about the heroes why watch?

That pretty much sums it up. If you watch individual episode you can enjoy the eye candy but multiple episodes get run-on boring.

In some of the later episodes they do get into some serious character stuff but that's pretty late in the season.

I thought it was fairly good. I never watched it back or anything so that prevents it from getting borring. The technology is relatively good and the tactics are fairly good.

CHAS really rocked. There was that episode with the Xander creations that showed two CHAS units getting spanked, but later on at Earth another unit was using a CHAS. I suspect the one that the Roughnecks had on Tophid was not exactly a normal unit seeing as Higgins managed to give it a personality. Notice how CHAS didn't really start kicking ass untill he started acting like a trooper carring for his fellow soldiers rather then using a threat analysis program.

I think the idea of the CHAS was quite well and it would do very well against just about any infantry ground force from either ST or SW (there are a few exceptions).

Actually they really started giving the characters development durring the Vegema Beach campaigns. You see their conflict with the Skinny and how they started reacting with Rico being injured. The Ice Asteroid didn't have to much, but then Klendathu really brought it out.

So there wasn't much development in the first half, but the second half was good. That is not all that unusual for the first season of a show. Problem was this was a single season show so you never got to see any more character development in later seasons and seeing how they react.
