Godzilla vs. Buffy - An analytical Comparison

Something tells me that after this, I'm going to be labled "Resident Buffy Fanatic" for this board...


Lets assume several things for this scenario to not be a ‘remake’ of “Godzilla Meets Bambi”. That they are relatively the same size. IE: Buffy is her normal high of approximately 5’3”, and Godzilla (depending on the incarnation) ranges from about 6ft to 7’2 ½” – which is the size of the suits used in each movie.

Because Godzilla has varied so much over the years, we need to have several fights to account for the differences between each Godzilla. IE: Buffy is compared to each incarnation of Godzilla, and a fight probability is designed/weighed.

The Situation: Buffy comes across Suit-sized Godzilla during a routine patrol. Judging by the surroundings – Buffy assumes that Godzilla is being ‘evil’ and prepares to fight. The Godzilla (depending on him being good or evil) will A) attack anything in his confused – small state or B) continues a previous rampage.

Let’s start out with the basic Stats

Godzilla Incarnations and Abilities:

Godzilla ’54 – Suit Weight: 220lbs; Height: Approx 6’; Abilities: Super Regenerative powers (Godzilla can be wounded but his G-Cells heal very rapidly), ‘Atomic Ray’, residual radioactivity, Super Strength, Thick Hide;
Fighting Style: “The original Godzilla was a walking juggernaut, crushing anything unfortunate enough to get in his way. This single-minded destruction characterizes the almost un-thinking brute in his attacks on Tokyo. Godzilla was largely immune to the effects of cannons, missiles and even massive amounts of electricity. He appeared mildly annoyed by jet fighters, and was even driven off by them, but more from irritation than any actual damage dealt to him by his attackers.” – Rodan’s Roost

Showa Godzilla – suit Weight: 88lbs; height: Approx: 6’; Abilities: Super Regenerative Powers, Thick Hide, can exhale a jet of superheated radioactive gas (‘Atomic Ray’), Super Strength, Thick Hide;
Fighting Style: “This Godzilla displayed a much less unstoppable and much more intelligent manner of fighting. Vulnerable to electricity, Godzilla nonetheless could harness the power of a storm to revitalize himself. In battle, Godzilla would grapple with an enemy, employing his fiery breath as a weapon of last resort or as the coup de gra to finally convince his foe that it was time to concede defeat. Godzilla was by no means a ruthless adversary, often times allowing an enemy to flee with its life rather than finishing the vanquished monster off. In latter years, Godzilla exhibited a definite compassion for humanity, sometimes sacrificing himself to save human life.” – Rodan’s Roost

Heisei Godzilla 1 – suit Weight: 242lbs to 100lbs; Height: Approx 6’5”; Abilities: Atomic Ray (an actual beam weapon from this point on), Super Regenerative Powers, ‘Nuclear Pulse’, Super Strength, Thick Hide;
Fighting Style: “Godzilla is a walking earthquake or typhoon. He barrels through any obstacle in his path, attacking mercilessly and holding back nothing. Godzilla will play his awesome atomic ray against his foes, blasting them apart in a ferocious display of power. Nor will Godzilla be content to sit back and attack from a distance. Even as his atomic ray tears apart his enemy, Godzilla still advances, more than willing to sink his claws and teeth into his devastated foe.” – Rodan’s Roost

Godzilla ’98 – Suit Weight: unknown; Suit Height: approx. 6’; Abilities: Speed, Agility, breaths jet of flammable methane gas.
Fighting Style: This Godzilla tends to avoid confrontation, but when pressed, it will try and ambush an opponent. Hiding to avoid any range attacks and fleeing to escape whenever possible.

Millennium/X Series Godzilla – Suit weight: approx 120lbs; Height; approx 6’; Abilities: Atomic Heat Beam, Regenerator G-1, Nuclear Pulse, Super Strength, Thick Hide, non-lethal residual radiation. Later, High speed, Leaping abilities, Sharp dorsal plates,
Fighting Style: “Godzilla seems to prefer to close with an enemy and rend it with his claws and fangs. He seems unwilling to employ his atomic breath except as a last resort, unless an enemy has proven too tough to defeat in any other manner. Godzilla also seems unwilling to refuse any challenge, lumbering forward at the slightest provocation, heedless of caution or common sense.” – Rodan’s Roost.
Later, this Godzilla is noted to display a cunning feline-like intelligence when battling. Changing strategies whenever one does not work.

GMK Godzilla – height: 7’2 ½”. Weight: Unknown; Abilities: Atomic Ray, Aquatic Adaptations, near impenetrable hide, Super Strength, Residual Radiation;
Fighting Style: This “God of Destruction” is perhaps the most ‘evil’ of all the incarnations, reveling in the death he causes – to the point of turning around to go back for more victims after smashing part of a city. Godzilla strides into battle like a juggernaut, for he very much is one. Thought this is probably the slowest of the forms, speed is nor a problem, for it is armed with the most powerful of all the breath weapon of all the incarnations. Also, this Godzilla is the most flexible, able to turn its entire body around like a true predator. He prefers to tear at enemies with his claws and teeth, using his ray sparingly, he is also extraordinarily brutal fighter giving no quarter once engaged in battle.

One should also note that scientifically, Godzilla would need to be armored like a tank and be extraordinarily powerful in order to even walk around let alone lift 3 times his body weight – a normal human can’t do that.

Buffy Stats – Weight: approx 115lbs; Height: approx 5’3”; Abilities: Self-Healing Powers, Super Strength (Approaching 2000lbs deadlift), Fighting Skills, Super-Durability, Supernatural ‘Detector’ system, the ability to jump high, High running speed (approaching 40mph when running (not Sprinting)), Predatory Instincts;
Fighting Style: Buffy is a very…impatient and impetuous fighter. She leaps into battle with a new opponent; a creature with superior strength or bizarre abilities can often surprise her. Much like Gamera, she will come back to fight an opponent much better prepared. Or, when she knows that she cannot afford to mess up – she thinks of a plan to stop whatever menace she is up against, researching its abilities and planning to avoid them. Taking a spontaneous approach to a battle – she flies by the seat of her pants – which often lands her into trouble, though she has grown more cautious over her years of experience. She relies on her gut instincts as well as her emotions for her strength and power.


How do these abilities match up? Let’s look at the matches:
Round 1:
Buffy vs. Godzilla ‘54
This battle would be long and dragged out, though Buffy would not walk away un-scaved, Godzilla would. The reasoning – this Godzilla is surrounded by residual radiation. Even if Buffy finds some way to defeat Godzilla, she’s going suffer the effects of radiation poisoning (Bald Buffy!). It would be interesting though, Buffy would most likely annoy Godzilla away since he’s to slow to hit her, and she is incredibly fast and strong – pound for pound, she is stronger than he is, but…there’s not much poundage in her, giving him an advantage. His atomic ray has a range of only (for this size) 10 feet, so she can get pretty close to him – she could throw rocks at a greater distance, though it would not have much effect.
Outcome: Godzilla wanders off in annoyance, Buffy contracts radiation poisoning and goes bald. She wins by ‘default’.

Round 2:
Buffy vs. Showa Godzilla
I think that this would be the most interesting of all the battles. It would definitely be the most physical. This Godzilla is more of a grappler, or a pro-wrestler. And Buffy is more of a kick boxer. Buffy would keep him on his toes for a while, until Godzilla trips her up with his tail. It would be very entertaining to see. Godzilla would beat on Buffy again and again, as Buffy would beat on him again and again. In the end, Godzilla’s thick hide and regenerative speed would in out.
Outcome: Godzilla breaths out his jet of superheated radioactive gas at Buffy, after beating on her for a while, and Buffy retreats. She comes back with several elaborate plans that eventually succeed in subduing Godzilla.
1 win for each.

Round: 3
Buffy vs. Heisei Godzilla
This Godzilla is heavily reliant on his beam weapon. One good blast ends this incredibly boring fight.
Outcome: Buffy is heavily burned and dies from Godzilla’s ray attack.

Round: 4
Buffy vs. Godzilla ‘98
Man, this is the only good round for Buffy. Godzilla here only has his claws, teeth, tail and agility to save him. Buffy would womp on him real good. However, not to say that Godzilla wouldn’t put up a decent fight. He might try and ambush her – like a demon’s never tried that. She’d get pretty scratched up, but she’d win out in the end.
Outcome: Buffy Grabs Godzilla and throws him around a lot – incapacitating him. She then snaps his neck, killing him. Buffy then feels bad because it was only an animal, not a demon.

Round 5
Buffy vs. Millennium/X series Godzilla
This is definitely a one sided fight. This Godzilla is exorbitantly savage and is armed with one powerful heat-beam. Throw in his extremely high regenerative speed, and we’ll be needing a new Slayer.
Outcome: Godzilla totally destroys Buffy with his beam after savagely mauling her.

Godzilla: 3

Round 6
Buffy vs. GMK Godzilla
The final card would be the bloodiest, most violent, and downright evil – almost like ‘The Wish’. This Godzilla not only has a height and weight advantage, has the will to do evil. And with an atomic ray of immense power and lethal levels of residual radiation…Buffy’s screwed. However, this Godzilla is very slow, Buffy might be able to limp away – but the beam weapon would do her in.
Outcome: Godzilla tears Buffy to shreds and/or blasts her to tiny bits in a fireball.

Godzilla: 4

Winner: Godzilla, King of the Monsters. Like there was ever a doubt?

Buffy as she was....whenever, I don't pay attention to the series. At her peak.

Godzilla charges up and uses his fire breath, frying Buffy and her friends and several city blocks instantly.

Now, obviously this fight was one-sided. however, it is a fair fight because both participants are fighting AS THEY ARE, not with one side suddenly gaining an advantage.

First of all, Darth Rosenburg would have no interest in ressurecting Buffy so she wouldn't have to be killed, and normal Willow's so-so powerful, but certainly not unkillable (not that she ever was, it's just that her friends were too wussy to kill her before it was too late, and Godzilla would just squish her like all the others).

Let Me Reiterate....

Godzilla is transported from his home dimension and enter's buffy, but their is a size difference between the two dimensions, making him the size of the suits in the movies.

Interesting setup Majin Gojira here is my question thoug.. how powerful would these shunken godzilla heat beams be? Someone calculated Showa blasts in the tons range on this board, and we have no way of knowing how shinking godzilla would effect that power level. Its still prob as strong as a rocket launcher or grenade.... I don't see buffy taking one of those to the face.

Well, being transported from one dimension to another is an entirely different matter from being shrunk to a smaller size... (If you're wondering what the fuck this means, just ask)

If we get 54-(Before Godzilla Returns/`85) then we get all sorts of messed up G-babble powers that defy Issac's lwas of motion in multiple ways, such as Big G's flying kick from Vs. Megalon, or his flight from Vs. Hedorah (the Smog Monster) With this, he is both stronger, and still has the Nuke breath, this time in an actual beam form...

If we get 85-Destroyah, we have taller, deadlier more serious version (Why the hell they didn't keep the fangs, I will never know) We loss all the messed up powers, but that ain't a problem. Given his auccuracy with Nuke breath, he can down Buffy with ease. If he need sto get physical, his eqal strentgh, along with damage resistance, will allow for a fight that he still wins.
