Top 10 moments in scifi history

Post by CNS Sarajevo »

I already have one going in the SW forum that's just Star Wars, but there are plenty of good moments from the rest of scifi. Here are mine:

10. Everyone leaves the city in Logan's Run
9. Ripley fights the queen in Aliens
8. Vader's mask is removed
7. Vader kills the Emperor
6. "**** you, a**hole," in Terminator (come on, you laughed too)
5. "KHAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!"
4. Captain Scarlet saves Los Angeles at the end of 'Place of Angels'
3. Reese saves Sarah Connor in the nightclub in Terminator
2. Luke destroys the Death Star
1. "Luke....I am your father!"

Honorable mentions: aerobraking in 2010, destruction of the Sumatra in Star Control 2

Most of you probably never heard of Captain Scarlet. It was a scifi series in the late 60s using puppets.

Your thoughts????
I love the smell of BDZ in the morning.

What about the formation of Lucifer in 2010 (at least you could actually see that)?

Or the destruction of the Enterprise in ST3?

I'd personally nominate (in no order):

1. Akira's ressurection in Akira.

2. The first time the Enterprise goes to warp in ST:TMP (I could watch that sequence all day).

3. The Lightcycle race in Tron.

4. Darth Vader's redemption and death in ROTJ.

5. Vader's revelation to Luke in ESB (Vader's line, "No. I... am your father." is just so chilling).

6. The destruction of the Enterprise in ST3.

7. Third Impact in The End of Evangelion.

8. Godzilla's death in Godzilla Versus Destoroyah.

9. The appearence of the Romulans is revealed in "Balance of Power".

10. The Terminator's self-termination at the end of T2.

How about a gaint block of black stone tumbles to earth crashing down on the earth and primative animals all head out worshipping it. Then they form crude weapons, wand kill eachother.

Planet of the Apes: "You blew it up!!DAMN YOU APES!"

Transformers:The Movie: How almost all the main characters from the show get blasted in the first ten minutes of the movie

The spaceplane "waltz" in 2001. That whole trip is how I think our first commercial space travel should look.

Maul's double ended lightsabre reveal at the begining of the final battle (or it would have been if they hadn't used it in the trailers to put butts in the seats).

Statue of Liberty in Planet of the Apes

The end of Godzilla vs. Destroyah where it looks like some version of Godzilla survived.

"I'd buy that for a dollar" from Robocop  Actually, the ED209 shooting the shit out of that one boardroom kissass in Robocop.

King Kong on the Empire State Building

King Kong vs. the "Tyranasaurus Rex"

The martian machines and their heat ray from War of the Worlds

The first full appearance of Vermithrax in Dragonslayer (Perter MacNichol was fucked).

Mathew Maconahey's (sp) death in Reign of Fire (just when I was thinking they were going to go all cheesey )
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.

Whoever knocks.

"Dark Helmet: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
Lone Star: What's that make us?
Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing!" From Spaceballs.

Seriously though. Prince Adam turning into He-Man for the first time. It's slightly fantasy though it does have some sci-fi elements so I'm including it.

Dinobot's Death Scene in Beast Wars was a pretty good moment.

Also that one part of Voyager where Voyager rammed the alien of the Week and exploded, was there ever a more beautiful sight than Janeway dying as her ship is torn to scrap around her? So what if it was erased by the reset button, it was still a great moment.

I gotta agree with Dinobots death, just beat the shit out of the rest of the Predacons, low on energy, unarmed and getting his ass handed to him by Megatron, makes a make shift club out of a rock and a stick, beats Megatron with it and with his last bit of energy, destroys the golden disk.

He should NOT have been broughten back. I'm glad he was never disgraced by the Beast Machines show. *shutter*

When Saffron got all naked and articulate in Firefly. Not the most sci-fi-eque thing. But if you saw it, I think you'll agree that it makes some kind of top ten list.

Londo's recounting of the Earth Minbari war. I love that speech and then it goes right into the Battle of the Line. It's probably the most moving moment in all of sci-fi.
