What happened to Rynak?

Rynak is Alf's homeworld. I vaguely recall he couldn't get back there for some reason. Does anyone remember what that reason was?
I prepared Explosive Runes today.

Melmac was the name of Alf's (a.k.a. Gordon Shumway) homeworld. It was destroyed, though I don't recall any specifics. Alf apparently was the last of his kind.
