More outrageous lies and ironic statement in sci-fi/SF

Post by Enlightenment »

Offer 'em up: the most outragous cases of characters lying through their teeth or making statements that later turned out to be false.

To get started:

"A half truth is the worst kind of lie." -- Delenn (if anything she was telling half truths every time she opened her mouth)

Any time anyone referred to a Trek captain as anything other than an incompetent buffoon...

"We are the superior beings!" - Numerous Daleks.

Hey, they may have come up with time travel technology but until 'Resurrection of the Daleks' they still couldn't cope with stairs!

Cybermen, otoh, were just plain cool. Except for gold and and really damn high amounts of damage (eg, being on board a ship when it crashes into earth) there was just no stopping the damn things...

"Gossomer Kill!" (Has anyone ever seen Gossomer the Martian dog hurt ANYTHING, hell he's usually grabbing ahold of the hero's lackey in a more "I'm scared hold and love me" type action....

We know Gossmer has to have been fixed at too young an age. After all even a female dog has more "Conchas" then "Gossemer"

But wait, she didn't say that she didn't lie did she? All she says is that a half truth is the worst lie, not that she didn't lie herself. Well, at least in that quote.

Yeah, but that's not what the specific quote said though. Ah I'm being too nitpicky. Whatever.

Not so much a lie as a leap to a conclusion:

"Dispatch War Rocket Ajax to bring back his body!"- Ming the Merciless speaking on Flash Gordon

And the quote about the solar eclipses being "no cause for alarm," though I don't remember the exact wording.
Stanley Hauerwas wrote:[W]hy is it that no one is angry at the inequality of income in this country? I mean, the inequality of income is unbelievable. Unbelievable. Why isn’t that ever an issue of politics? Because you don’t live in a democracy. You live in a plutocracy. Money rules.

Whenever a character in a Godzilla movie says the new weapon will kill Godzilla, they are always wrong.
Don't hate; appreciate!
