Sathanis vs Eclipse

Post by RayCav of ASVS »

They both fire at the same time and they both get hit at the same time. Who survives?

if the Eclipse fires her superlaser then the sathanis juggernut is toast, it's weapons are only a gigaton a most, the weapons on the imperial ships are so so much more powerful.

try pitching it against a Giel-battleship instead, they are of similar size.

A full Sathanas broadside is about 100 gigatons spread out over 7 seconds--not enough to get through the shields of the Eclipse. The Eclipse superlaser is much more powerful.

The Eclipse wins, simply because it has more brute strength than the Sathanas. But if you were to factor in fighters etc, then the Eclipse is beaten, but the Sathanas doesn't exactly win either.

Either with superlaser or with broadsides of TLs, Eclipse takes this one I believe.

If ICS states HTLs as 200GT, does that mean that ISDs and higher level Imp ships can take multiple 200GT hits repeatedly?

Actually even with fighters/bombers, Sathanas is still beat.

The Eclipse has more fighters that travel at faster speeds using more powerful weapons then the Sathanas. Gee, which one will win...

See my Shield Strength Calcs in the ST VS SW Forums they are both stickys,

Imperal SD are expected to survive a few broad-sides from thier own weapons,

When a few broad sides(Lets say 2) Means 34 200+ Gigaton Weapons plus 24 200 Gigaton weapons all firing twice.. on ONE shield section
Thats saying somthing

Standered is six sections BTW, Venteral, Dorsal, Port, Starboard, For and Aft

A Harbinger bomb from FS1 does 3200 damage and is rated at 5000MT. Now, I know that the anti-fighter missiles have ratings as well but the Harbinger will give the absolute highest figure.

Now, using the 5000MT/3200HP figure, we get 1HP = 1.6MT. The Sathanas has 4 BFReds on the front which do 2100 damage ever 1/6 seconds. So,

2100*6 = 12,600MT * 4 = 50,400MT/second or 50.4GT/second. The problem with this is that the BFRed fires continously for 25 seconds and then needs to recharge for 10 seconds.

Sath has 1,000,000HP or 1,600GT or 8 hits from a HTL. Shivan Juggernaut goes down hard.

While I agree with the conclusion, the numbers for the Sathanas are off. The BFRed does about 4 GT/s for about 30 GT per blast. Here's a copy-and-paste from my own findings a while back:

A Harbinger is rated at 3200 damage points and has a 5GT yield. The explosion is spherical, which means 2.5GT actually hits the target. Ramius and I have determined that the bomb appears to hit twice as far as the game engine is concerned. First the damage from a direct impact, causing full damage, then the shockwave deals additional damage. Since it is below the minimum range for full damage with a direct hit, the full damage will be dealt (again). Thus, the actual amount of damage done is 6400 hitpoints for 2.5GT of damage hitting the target. Dividing 6400 HP by 2.5 GT yields 2560 HP/GT.

Damage is the amount of damage dealt every few fractions of a second (about 5.5 times per second). Delay is how long the beam rests between firing, and Life is the amount of time the beam acn hit the target.

HP/sec is determined by Damage * 5.5. Multiply the number by Life for total dealt. However, HP is pretty much useless for comparing to other universes.

GT/sec is Damage * 5.5 / 2560. This is how much damage is being dealt when the beam is active.
Total GT is GT/sec * Life. Naturally, it is the amount of damage done per fire cycle.
Overall GT/sec is GT/sec / (Delay + Life), or the average amount of damage done per second over the course of a battle if firing at full speed.

The slash beams slice over the target, and thus will not hit their target for full power. They look cool, though. :)

*shrug* Your numbers were only about double of what I got, and with a disparity as big as this one, it doesn't matter. (On first read, before I posted, I mistakenly thought you attributed 50GT/sec per cannon, which was a good bit too high.) Besides, I hadn't posted my numbers on this particular board yet so not everyone here has had a chance to see or scrutinize them.

Why yes it does, conservative HTL estimates are 1028GT a cannon, there are 32 cannons in a broadside arranged in 8 turrets, thats 32Teratons for a broadside.
My figures put an HTL cannon at 2.5TT giving them an 80TT broadside.

A single FreeSpace universe fighter can pretty much disable most if not all of a Sathanas weapons, AND make decent damage to the hull with beam weapons alone.

A thing I don't understand about FS2 is why they would actually pit the player against a weaker capital ship than the first one? Well, um, ok maybe it was to give the player a false sense of security and then putting him against a dozen Sathanas.

One, a fighter cannot wield beam weapons. Second, the fighter can disable the Sath's weapons but it takes a long time AND there's a limit to how much it can damage the Sath (There's a game engine something that does this...well...yeah)

2) You mean the Lucifer, yes? The Sath has greater armor and weaponry but the Lucifer had the invulnerability tag, thus making it seem stronger.

Was that what you were talking about?
