imperium of man vs Galactic empire/systems commonwealth

Post by starfury »

The imperium of man has disovered two wormholes, one leading to the galactic empire, the other to the systems commonwealth, seeing both powers as a potential threat the IOM decides to crush both before they can attack. can the IOM of defeat both other empires.

I am not really familar with the forces of the IOM so I have really no idea how their ships compare to the other two. All I gleaned from this board is that they are really powerful. can anybody provide real info on the capital warships of the imperium of man and how large they are from battleships to patrol crafts.

The imperial navy has always used a lage veriety of light craft aboard it's vessels, From Brigs Dories, pinnaces, couriers and lighters for transporting personell materials and documents between ships. They can be built aboard ship.

also at the disposal of the Imperial Navy are the Vast alien Blackstone Fortresses (probably necron) There were six of them, however the Imperiaum is unable to activate them, however when activated they can be used as potent weapons of mass destruction they are able to combine their weapons, two being able to BDZ an earth type planet in a moment, three able to cause stars to supernova there were six, however the four in imperial hands by 40,151 spontaneously self destructed. It is belived that the species which built them decided they could no longer remain in human hands.

The Imperium of man can also call upon the forces of the space marines as elite troops their fleets are as follows

Fortress monestry
Vast converted asteroids many hundereds of miles across

Battle Barges
About the size of Emperor class battleships, able to carry four companies of space marines and all equipment required to conquer a planet.

Strike Cruisers
Similar in size to a lunar class cruiser, heavily armed

Gladius class frigate

Hunter class destroyer
most common space marine vessel

Nova class Frigate
smallest space marine vessel

Thunderhawk gunships
Space marine deployment vehicle, able to take on most fighters, preform bombing operations and land on planets, to deploy troops

Also the IoM has various fized battlestations

The largest normally available is the Ramilies class star fort
which is about 50 KM across

non-active Blackstone fortresses

Orbital Defence Lance platform
Similar to a Golan defence platform

Orbital torpedo launcher
Shoots the equiventent of super charged ICBMs at enemy vessels, by the hundred

Orbital weapons platform
Misc weapons

Mine
A solitary, cheap space mine

Minefeilds
lots of mines

Fire ship
Outdated transports rigged to explode very violently

System ships,
Non FTL capable vessels

Defence Monitor
Slow bulky but reliably armed

Orbital Dock
DS9 sort of thing, only bigger

Space station
Large orbital installation

In addition, any force sent would likely be accompanied by at least one;
Inquisition Black ship
These are large custom built cruisers, which carry inquisitors, and Torture Prisoners, If theres and anti- enterprise this is it. They also usually carry an army capable of supressing a planet, for uprisings.

It's going to be messy.... Would the SC and GE be allowed to work together?

GE/SC alliance

that was actually the original idea, as these are three of the most powerful empires in traditional sci-fi, each could crush b5's shadows and vorlons, the borg/dominion of ST and the Gou'ld of SG-1 with ease. I really like preparing large-scale wars and I wanted the three greatest empires of sci-fi that I had any real knowledge of to fight so I can figures how they measure.

I felt it was rather boring debating other matchs do to extreme differences in power between these three and most others. despite my being a b5 fan I had no Illusions of the of the MASSIVe gap between the entire ISA and just the UFP, I feel this way as the EA can be judged as the galactic average of b5 and is far weaker then the "normal" major powers of other universes, not even having true aritifical gravity installed in their ships till the warlock. only the SC and IOM would actually seem to true rivals in all sense to the GE.

I really want to hear everybody's views on this. think of it as a variation on the SC vs GE thread, with a third major power.

Problem with the IoM though is that very few of them understand their own technology, most of them revere 'Machine spirits'

Also their means of FTL travel, is not very relable

There are even more advanced species in 40K that never get mentioned

(such as the necrons, who are many orders of magnitude more powerful than the IoM, but reletivly rare)
